Ozzie Smith, Omar Vizquel, Ichiro, Jim Edmonds all say hello...

come on dude. A great catch that saves two runs is just as important as a two run homer. It all adds up.

not really. if you're able to produce lots of runs on offense it will make up for poor defense. believe me, if david ortiz was in the NL, a team would have no problem playing him at first.

this sort of thing has been discussed before and the numbers have proven that producing runs > playing defense in terms of affecting wins and losses

Yeah but if you make errors that in the end of the season lead to 30 unearned runs, you should subtract 30 runs from your RBI total. Things that don't show up in stats...

he plays good defense in CF
he does not cause drama
he doesnt have off the field issues
good character guy
wont be a 300 hitter
does have some injury issues

hes a starting OF'er on every team. that is a fact.

as for whoever offered melky and clippard/desalvo are you kidding me? that is not equal value.

he is not horrible. he isnt elite. hes great. you guys need to adjust some expectations from him. he wont probably ever bat 300 for us- but hes a .270/30/100 guy with running threat on the bases.

any clown who thinks we should trade beltran should be banned.. top 5 defense cf, hit over 40 hrs last year, great speed, great arm, good character.... my god some of you are idiots - and whoever said defensive cf is overrated plz ask the yankee fans who know better than any1 (this is not an insult, just complete honesty) how important a defensive cfer is.. i have seen several games that they would have won if they had a gold glover (like beltran) in cf. i cant believe some of you consider yourself fans.. no loyalty to your players, change views like their underware.. gimme a break

We better trade him now or we'll get 4 more years of .250 batting average at our number 3 hole. I don't understand why they refuse to bat him 6th. He is not a 2, 3, 4 or 5 hitter. The stats speaks for itself. Could you imagine if A-Rod hit .250  We need to trade him for some young bats. He strikes out with people on base like it's part of his religion or something. The Mets can't be serious about winning a world series with Beltran as their 3 hitter???? Sure he has 16 homers. But does anyone remember any of them. Were any of them crucial. :wavefinger: Minus that one Philly series he has 12 homers. All the excuses of Alou not being in the lineup makes me sick. The problem is Carlos Beltran doesn't belong on this team for that salary  . Let's move on and Let's go Mets!

Mets87 wrote:even though i don't think "clutch" exists, you're basing your entire opinion of the guy off of 12 games?

and have you watched him this year? his batting average is going to be lower than delgado's if he keeps this crap up (not that batting average is that important, but if you're gonna hit .258 you better OPS better than .800) he pulls inside pitches foul and rolls over on outside pitches (except for the hard ground ball he hit last night to score a run...dunno how kouzmanoff didn't get to it though). it's starting to appear that he only hit so well last year because delgado was hitting so well behind him. delgado has been mediocre this year, so beltran gets more off-speed stuff and he's looked horrible. i will say that he plays very good defense (anybody see that catch in houston when he ran up that stupid hill?)...but defensive ability is overrated in baseball.

i'd like to dedicate this bump to you 3 intelligent sport fans :rofl2:

edit.
Bill Clinton slept with an intern. A consenting adult and he got impeached and nearly disbarred as a result. Donald Trump went to parties showcasing underaged women brought in as basically prostitutes, and he says it's nothing.

Double standard?
