tomorrow is the draft and the mets have the 7th pick.
basically they're gonna go cheap again(lol) but their target is catcher/pitcher/shortstop high schooler justin o'conner who'll be a catcher in the minors and since he's a pitcher who hits 94 mph he'll have a great arm. he also has extreme power potential.
of course if left handed pitchers chris sale and drew pomeranz fall the mets will draft them. they've also been linked to right handed pitcher matt harvey and 3b zach cox but in the last 24 hours it's changed to justin o'conner.
will update.

Jameson Taillon
Drew Pomeranz
Deck McGuire
Chris Sale
Give me one of these pictures and I will be happy. If we don't draft a pitcher it will be disappointing. We simply need another arm in the wings.

taillon won't make it past 3
pomeranz could fall
sale could fall
mcguire sucks ... there's no upside with him other than being a 3rd starter at best.
yeah arms are nice but if everyone is gone then o'conner is the best player available in terms of upside. here's a scouting report on him
Hitting ability: O'Conner is a very good hitter who stays inside the ball well and is short to the ball.
Power: He has plus raw power to all fields.
Running speed: He's a below-average runner but better once he's underway.
Base running: He has good instincts but is not a base-stealing threat.
Arm strength: He has plus arm strength. Some teams like him as a pitcher who can hit the mid-90s from the mound.
Fielding: He has good athleticism at shortstop but has tinkered with catching and many think it's the best spot for him.
Range: He has limited range at short, a reason why most see him at another position.
Physical Description: O'Conner isn't the biggest guy in the world -- just over six feet -- but he's strong and athletic.
Medical Update: Healthy.
Strengths: A lot of tools, including big-time raw power and a plus arm that some teams would rather see on the mound.
Weaknesses: If you take him as a catcher, he'll be very raw from there, without a ton of experience. If you want him to pitch, he's more of a thrower than a pitcher.
Summary: After hitting the summer showcase circuit, O'Conner is one of the best-known high school players in the Midwest. He has serious tools, most notably an ability hit for average, plenty of power, and a plus throwing arm. He has the athleticism to play shortstop, though his range may dictate a move. Behind the plate, he could be a very intriguing, yet raw, prospect. There are some teams who like his arm strength from the mound, though most see his future as a position player. Don't be surprised if a team takes his bat pretty early, puts him behind the plate and lets him develop at whatever pace he needs.

I'm not sure how fond I am in taking a player with the ability to be molded through years of minor league play. I want a college player that will be able to contribute in a year or two like Ike Davis.

but the college hitters aren't good after grandal.
choice has a funky swing, brentz is said to have francouer like patience and cox doesn't hit homeruns or doubles.
o'connor is a high schooler who's not said to 'hit for power eventually' he's hitting for power now and not only to left field but to center and right field as well!

Matt Harvey is interesting if he can rekindle what touted him as the number one prospect, obviously preferred Sale over him because he is a lefty. Harvey has the big name and had a solid bounce back year this year. Solid pick, not mad but not exactly thrilled either. Then again I don't follow college baseball that closely anymore.

Supposedly very similar to Big Pelf.

harvey has 2 good pitches and possibly a 3rd if he remembers how to throw the curveball which he forgot how to throw when he started using the slider.
he's a groundball pitcher who pitches innings(7 innings per start for unc) but his weakness is that he doesn't repeat his delivery.

Harvey has shown to have a durable arm, goes deep and is a power pitcher. Like said his control and mechanics can be shaky at times, but he comes from a good school. Sucks thought we don't pick again til the 89th pick.

I strongly believe that there was a handshake agreement with Wagner upon his signing that they would not tender him arbitration. He fought hard against it before caving to Boston for a chance at the postseason.
