Next crop of Mets pitching prospects looks special.

I just had to point out that with the Mets farm system improving, they have a great nucleus of potential top of the rotation pitching prospects. The big 4 is Jenry Mejia, Matt Harvey, Jeruys Familia, and Zack Wheeler. And it goes beyond that, but those 4 all have top of the rotation stuff.

Mejia- Had Tommy John surgery earlier this year, but is only 21. Has 3 potential plus pitches. Has a great cutting fastball, which has been compared to Mariano Rivera's, has a 12 to 6 curveball and a above average change up. He has dominated all levels of the minors and was dominating AAA before he got hurt.

Familia- Only 21 years old and has been successful in AA so far this year. His last start he went 5 innings giving up no runs and no walks and stuck out 7. Some questions with command, but it has gotten better and some rough mechanics. Nevertheless, has a great fastball that he can dial back to the upper 90's with a nasty slider and is developing a change up. Has electric stuff and is still very young.

Harvey- Is 22 and is the most polished of these young pitchers. Has dominated every level he has been too. Is in AA and after a few bad starts, he has really turned it on. His era at 4.99 is not a good indicator as to how well he has pitched. His walk to strikeout ratio is great and is getting a ton of groundballs. Has a great sinking fastball that he can get into the mid to upper 90's with 2 above average breaking balls, a curve and slider, and is developing a change up and is expected to be the first of these guys to make it to the majors and is considered the most "sure thing" of these guys.

Wheeler- is only 20 years old with electric stuff. Has an electric fastball that can get up to the upper 90's and a hammer curve. Has command issues but since going back to his high school mechanics his command has been much better. Drafted 6th overall in the 2009 draft coming out of high school. Is considered to have the most "bust" potential, but also has the potential to be the best pitcher of this group.

Then, when you go more in depth with the farm system, you have a ton of guys like Akeel Morris, Domingo Tapia, and Juan Urbina who are all teenagers with great stuff. Tapia has a fastball that hits 100mph, Morris is unhittable in the Appalachian league, and Urbina is a 18 year old lefty with a good fastball and a plus change up which is rare for a teenager. And their are even more guys with great stuff. So, pitching prospects is definitely one of the stronger spots for the Mets inproving farm system.

All these guys are top pitching prospects and all have electric stuff.

Wheeler continues to dominate. 5 innings 1 run 2 walks 9 strikeouts. ERA is now around 2.70. He is pitching really well.

And Familia is now on a 11 inning scoreless streak.
