Mets' Free Agents, Who Stays? Who Goes?

I'd give him another shot. In those few games he played, he was a pretty good specialist. The bullpen didn't have an experienced lefty after he was injured.

2) Yoenis Cespedes

I'm going to copy and paste what I said in another thread:

His contract will likely be a 20-25 million for 6 or more years according to some reports.

I say pass on him. I would like him back. He would help in the playoff race. It's not going to be as easy to make it in the upcoming season. But at the same time, his home run dependent offense proved to be his doom in the playoffs. I say the Mets take their chances with moving on from Cespedes.

I think the Mets could use that money to revamp their bullpen and get a good contact/speedy guy.

3) Tyler Clippard

He really had a bad season. When the Mets made the trade, they didn't get what they thought they would get. Is he worth another try? I can go either way tbh. It all depends on his contract.

4) Bartolo Colon

I love this guy. But unless he takes a big backseat role and a cheap contract, it's time to move on. He really isn't a bullpen guy either since it takes him a couple of innings to get into rhythm.

5) Kelly Johnson

It depends if this team decides to keep Murphy or not. If not, I say they definitely keep him. Johnson is the utility player. And proves to be worthy in a long season.

6) Daniel Murphy

I can honestly go either way on this one. I say use the qualifying offer. If no team gives him a better offer, the Mets keep him for one year and he fills a lot of needs for a long season. If he does get a better offer, the Mets can get a compensation pick to make up for that Cuddyer signing.

7) Eric O’Flaherty

A no here. Need I explain?

8) Bobby Parnell

A no on this one as well. He was good, but unfortunately Tommy John surgery set him back and he would be due a hefty contract from arbitration for a reliever.

9) Juan Uribe

A heck yes on this one. He plays third base well and David Wright will likely miss a lot of games. A must resign if the team loses Murphy.

Not sure what is the question. Are you asking who would we like to keep or what Sandy will do?

If its our opinion...

1) Jerry Blevins - keep with cheap contract. don't see how many teams are willing to give a pitcher with two major injuries

2) Yoenis Cespedes - let him walk. He went on a white hot tear. I don't see how he can do that again. He is an above average bat .280 25-29 HRs 90 RBIs per year for a 6 year contract?! No thank you.

3) Tyler Clippard - keep with a decent contract. A lot of people are pointing a finger at Clippard but look at the market and it is empty with solid relief pitchers.

4) Bartolo Colon - would like to keep him on the condition that he will fight for the 5th spot. if he loses he will have to come out of the bullpen and spot start.

5) Kelly Johnson - would love to keep a lefty bat on the bench. Will most likely get playing time due to Wright's back.

6) Daniel Murphy - offer QO and hopefully he will sign with someone. He deserves the money he is going to get. We're going to need those extra draft picks.

7) Eric O’Flaherty - goodbye

8) Bobby Parnell - good luck

9) Juan Uribe - please please keep him. Just like Johnson, he will get playing time at 3rd with Wright's back and 1st if Duda can't hit lefties.

If we are predicting what Sandy will do.... its pretty simple.
Let go everyone. Will keep Blevins and Johnson

10. Ian Desmond – Mets. Five years, $80MM. Perhaps the game’s best shortstop from 2012-14, Desmond slumped to a .233/.290/.384 batting line in 2015. He still hit 19 home runs, and is easily the best available at his position. Three MLBTR writers feel the Mets will sign their longtime Nationals adversary, while the Padres and White Sox also got mentions. Desmond will come with a qualifying offer attached.

16. Dexter Fowler – Mets. Four years, $60MM. Fowler, 30 in March, joined the Cubs from the Astros in a January trade. He did a fine job as the Cubs’ center fielder, playing in a career-high 156 regular season games and quieting concerns about his 2014 defensive metrics. The switch-hitter posted his standard solid OBP and a career-best 17 home runs, so he’ll be turning down the Cubs’ qualifying offer in search of a multiyear deal. A return to the Cubs makes sense, but if they decide to move on, the Mets, Nationals, Angels, Marlins, and White Sox are some decent matches. Teams like the Mariners and Rangers may seek help in center field, but may be reluctant to forfeit their first-round draft pick.

Vic Black opted for Free Agency. I didn't see that coming.

I would of liked to experiment with him for another year. He was pretty good in that 2014 season.
