Delgado is starting to annoy me

Post#1 » by TdoubleE » Sun Apr 8, 2007 9:00 pm

Guys, I'm sorry I cant take it anymore...

- First Delgado doesnt stand for the National Anthem. OK, got it, he's protesting the war. Whatever.

- Then the Mets make a run for him in FA and he publicly disses Minaya. Not cool, certainly not professional as everyone claims this guy is supposed to be.

- Then we trade for this guy and granted, he's OK, but not worth his contract IMO. I just dont care much for these "shift" guys who can only hit to one side of the field IF they make contact at all.

- Now, so far this year he looks absolutely horrible at the plate. I'm talking Mo Vaughn horrible. I know, its early, its cold, wah, wah, wah...

- On top of that, now he thinks he can give pitching advice out in the field!

Why is Willie is giving this guy a free pass when he should be batting 5th or lower in the lineup? I hope he'll turn it around but I think his best days are behind him. We also need to find a righty 1B bat (not named Franco) and start platooning this guy. Put Wright at cleanup and move this guy out of key situations before it comes back to haunt us.

Your pretty funny. He's a streaky hitter, when he gets hot you'll look at yourself in the mirror and feel very foolish sir.

I dont want streaks from my cleanup hitter. An occaissonal fly ball with a runner on 3rd w/less than 2 outs would be nice.

If we need to wait on a hot streak then in the mean time put the old man in the 5 spot and let D.Wright bat cleanup.

The fact that its only six games into the season and you are already calling out a player, cmon what is that? We still have a top offense because of our sucky players ala Alou and Green are hitting.

You dont think Delgado is going to break out by this time next month? Dont overlook the fact he just had a child, that plays a big part into his slow start. He was injured then missed a week because of the birth.

Also you know why you bat him fourth in the lineup, because there is no one else on this team that can protect Beltran like he can. Dont even bother changing the lineup, it is perfect the way it is.

Yeah, it's way too early in the season.
There are many players that are off to a slow start.

For our lineup he was considered a weak link.

Give him more time. And he already stands up for the anthem and made nice with Minaya, the organization, and the fans, when we traded for him. But he IS getting old, so I hope we're also looking at contingency plans, just in case.

Delgado will be fine. Way to completely overreact. If this is the 40th game and he hasn't improved at all we can worry then. Remember Valetin last year at the start of the season? Just give him time man.

I think Delgado has been just missing his pitches. His swing looks fine too me. Also it's been freaking cold to start this season and those older ballplayers it might take a little while for them to thaw out and get going. I'm not worried at all. The one I am worried about (just a little) is David Wright. He hasn't been the same since the allstar game. I'm just hoping the superstardom and all of the attention he's attracted has not distracted him from what made him great to begin with.

David is the LEAST player that I am worried about ecause he is such a good hitter. I am worried about this bullpen. Heilwoman needs Robohern to be effective. We will greatly miss Duaner. I say we move Joe Smith to the set up role.

David's Career Homerun Totals by Month

2004
July - 1
August - 6
September - 6

2005
April - 4
May - 4
June - 3
July - 4
August - 6
September - 5

2006
April - 5
May - 3
June - 10
July - 4
August - 2
September - 2

If you look at these numbers the Max David ever hit was 10 one time and that inflated his HR total in the first half of last season. As long as his currnet hitting woes (not really, .300 BA and a .391 OBP) don't linger on the field I'll be happy. The only thing that continues to scare me is him striking out so much and not getting good swings. Yesterday was a great sign he hit the ball hard all 4 times at the plate.

Well I agree with you with the quality at bats part. I thought you were talking about his power stroke more, my apologies.

Back to David. I can definitely see him breaking out today but I can definitely see him continuing his funk today because Hamels has Cy Young calibur stuff. The thing about David is that he is just getting under balls, it's not like he has a hitch in his swing or anything, he isnt even trying to hit homeruns. He is taking the ball field to field which he has to continue.

All in all, I can't wait until this team starts to click. Just think about it, we are 4-2 with our 4-5-6 hitters all struggling.

Edit: David Wright has an 18-game hitting streak dating back to last season.

Some of you think I'm over-reacting to his early season slump. Its a combination of a lot of things really that's been bugging me since even before last season.

I mean, lets not forget he hit .265 last year which is well below his average of .280+. And until today he looked god-awful slow with the bat speed. (Of course he would come through today with a nice game but I stick by my original post.)

Maybe he's going thru the NY adjustment period? Time will tell I guess. Sooner or later though, I think D. Wright is the heir-apparent for the cleanup role. I just hope Willie doesnt get stubborn about it. He has been a little extra-protective in Wright's development in the past.

Delgado is the best locker room guy we have. He took the pressure off of everyone in the lineup -- especially Beltran. I look forward to Delgado having a surge like Beltran did last year.
