Mets @ Diamondbacks Series | May 3rd -> May 6th

Post#1 » by Jose7 » Thu May 3, 2007 6:46 pm

LETS GO METS!!

Tom Glavine vs. Micha Owings
Scouting Report:
Mets: Glavine is six wins away from the 300 mark in his storied career. The veteran didn't get much help Saturday, giving up just one run on three hits but coming away with a no-decision against the Nationals. Glavine also needs just one more strikeout to reach 2,500 for his career. The 41-year old clearly hasn't lost much of his stuff, pitching well in five of his six starts this season.

D-backs: Owings will be activated from the disabled list just prior to his start. The right-hander strained his right hamstring while running the bases during his April 17 start against the Dodgers and had to go on the DL. This start was originally scheduled to go to Edgar Gonzalez, but after much deliberation, the team decided to shift Gonzalez to the bullpen and put Owings in the rotation. Owings was a combined 16-2 at Double-A and Triple-A last season.

John Maine vs. Randy Johnson
Scouting Report:
Mets: Maine has been spectacular in the first part of the season. He struck out a career-best eight batters and allowed only three hits in Sunday's 1-0 win over the Nationals. Maine appears to be quickly growing into the type of strong young pitcher the Mets would like, especially since a part of their starting rotation is older. But he's clearly been dominant at times this season.

Diamondbacks: Johnson made his second start of the season on Sunday afternoon, and he showed much better command and control than in his first outing. Johnson allowed three runs -- two earned -- in six innings, walking one and striking out five. He was slated to throw around 100 pitches again, and was able to go one more inning with that pitch count than his previous outing. He left with the game tied in a contest the D-backs eventually won.

Chan Ho Park vs. Brandon Webb
Scouting Report:
Mets: Park lasted just four innings in his season debut against Florida, filling in for the injured Orlando Hernandez. He retired the first eight batters he faced, but then let six straight Marlins reach base, five of whom scored. Park allowed seven runs total in a 9-6 loss, and will look to improve against a Diamondbacks team that he held to a 4.02 ERA in three games last season. For his career, Park is 7-4 with a 3.19 ERA against Arizona.

Diamondbacks: Webb once again was outstanding, but this time the right-hander got a win to show for it. Webb allowed just one run on four hits over seven innings as the D-backs beat the Dodgers in Los Angeles. Webb allowed just two hits through the first six innings. After mixing in more curveballs and changeups in his last few starts, Webb relied heavily on his sinker against the Dodgers.

Mike Pelfrey vs. Livan Hernandez
Scouting Report:
Mets: Pelfrey followed up the worst outing of his career with arguably his best on Tuesday against the Marlins, lasting into the seventh inning in a quality start. It was the deepest Pelfrey had ever gone in a game, and after letting up all three of his runs in the first, he settled down to retire 17 of the last 20 batters he faced. Pelfrey will look to keep that momentum going in his first career start against the Diamondbacks.

Diamondbacks: Hernandez wiggled his way out of numerous jams in his last start against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. The right-hander allowed six hits and walked six over six innings, yet only gave up one run. Fittingly, the lone run came on a bases-loaded walk. Hernandez threw 124 pitches in the game. In his start prior to that, Hernandez gave up a three-run homer to Adrian Gonzalez in the first inning, but held the Padres scoreless in his final six innings of work.

Tough pitching match-ups. I'll be happy with a split.

I think I heard that Crappy Ho is not pitching game 3 and instead has been sent back down to the minors. Guess Willie came to his senses and realized no good can come from Crappy starting against the D-Backs.

John Maine vs. the little unit tonight! Should be fun! Maine going for 5-0, wow. The Mets hitters need to be patient with Randy because, he just came off the DL and I don't think he's going to have great control. Then we all know how angry Randy gets when he can't throw strikes. He starts grooving pitches and thats when Beltran, Delgado and Wright hit BOMBS.
