Question about Perez

Post#1 » by KnickTerp12 » Sat May 19, 2007 1:51 am

What up Mets fans, nice game tonight..

Just had a quick question... What the heck is up with Ollie jumping over the first base line when he leaves the game? Does he always do that? Whats the story.

Thanks.

it's like a good charm for him. like how Nomar tightens his batting gloves after every pitch. Ollie jumps over the line.

He does it no matter what, bad inning or good.

Kid just loves the game and is going to be a beast in new York for a long time.

Oliver Perez during post game.

"I play baseball like it's going to be my last day, my last game."

That just says it all.

He's not the first.

Dennis Cook I think it was, used to jump over the base paths - the reasoning is - those lines (the foul lines) are a pitchers friends. a Pitcher respects those lines, and well, some pitchers don't like to step on them (as a sign of respect).

Dennis Cook is the same guy who used to have 99 cents at the end of every contract cause he thought 9s were lucky.

Exactly and if you actually watch the game you see a lot of Pitchers do this, they just dont make it such a big jump.

Yeah, but he and other pitchers don't gallop over it like monkeys. It's pretty interesting and a nice little fact i didnt kno about either way.

Maybe, but early on, he was a nice 7th inning guy. Dennis, Turk and - who was our closer then, orosco? Those were the days. Though, these days aren't bad either.

Eh, I like how Oliver Perez does it, even if he gallops. I know it seems kind of stupid, but it shows passion for the game.
