He is not expected to be available to the Mets for at least another 2-1/2 months as he recovers from right rotator cuff surgery, but there will be a Pedro Martinez sighting tomorrow night at Shea for the first game of the Subway Series.
"He's doing great and coming to the game Friday," one of Martinez's family members told the Daily News yesterday from the pitcher's native Dominican Republic.
Fernando Cuza, Martinez's agent, also told The News he had heard that his client was planning a trip to see his Mets teammates. Martinez has been rehabbing both at the Mets' Port St. Lucie spring-training complex and in Santo Domingo as he works toward joining the rotation some time after the All-Star break.

Sugar buns, how many times do I have to tell you that you will not be seeing Pedro on the mound at Shea before August 1st before it sinks in??? He had torn rotator cuff surgery! Quite frankly, it's a pipe dream for anyone to think he will help us at all this season.
When you have that surgery, it takes a lot longer than 1 year to get your control and arm strength back. Even if he comes back, I seriously doubt we can use him in pressurized situations down the stretch and into the playoffs. And the cold weather in October will not help him.
I much prefer he sits out the season and stays in Florida all winter long to build up his arm. Then he comes back next year at full strength. That is whats best for us in the long run and for him too.

If anybody can get back within a year and be a servicable pitcher after rotator cuff surgery, it's Pedro. The guy has beaten the odds his whole career.

We have enough of those types of pitchers. We need Pedro to be Pedro, not John Maine on Sunday. Otherwise we're much better off letting him build his arm strength for next season.

Well if you're going to pin all your hopes on Pedro then, you will be disappointed. I'm not counting on him this season. I think Omar will make a deadline deal and get us another pitcher. We still need a bona-fide ace even if Pedro comes back.
agreed on all counts
