Four days from now, Pedro Martinez is scheduled to throw off a mound for the first time this season.

Martinez, who's recovering from a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder, is scheduled for his initial bullpen session on Tuesday. He also will long toss that day.

Martinez said he has been long tossing up to 230 feet. But a successful mound session would be a big step forward in his rehabilitation.

Martinez is still set to return to the Mets in August.

We just may have a top 3 rotation, lineup and bullpen in the majors if Pedro comes back strong....scary.

Top 3 rotation?

Yeah... Sure... Your beginning to sound like Max Kellerman when he goes on his Yankee rants.

Well Pedro says that he feels like he's much stronger than in the past. The only thing that worries me is that he tries to do too much to soon because he wants to be on the playoff roster. Then you have to worry about the cold October weather affecting his arm. I don't want him airing it out this season if it's going to damage his arm. I'd like to see him really strong for next season and see what he can do with his improved velocity. Also next season is the last year of his contract and I'd like to keep him around healthy for a long time after that. He and Johan Santana are going to look might fine some day in our rotation. 8)

I still think Omar needs to be very mindful of how our rotation looks heading into the postseason. We shouldn't hesitate to add another frontline arm, if age or injuries catch up with us. For now, things look great.

After witnessing that meltdown in Chicago, what does everyone think of Carlos Zambrano now? Too volatile for us? Could we afford to take the chance with our strong leadership?

Pedro is a genius.

He NEVER uses the hard cheese unless he has to anyway. By saying that he has his 98 mph stuff back is gonna make hitters very aware of it coming and build their gameplans around the possibility of it.

Most likely if he is back to full health, you will see 88-90 mph with the same wicked offspeed stuff then maybe go up to 92-94 mph cheese when he needs it the most.

People still have to remember the guy is not young anymore, it doesn't matter how the good surgery was.

he said if he pitched in ny it would be for the mets...we have two good young pitching prospects and god knows they need pitching. perhaps a package of pelfrey or humber+heilman+lastings+whatever it takes for zambrano.
