Despite their weak record (24-34) the Mets may have a couple of nice players playing at single A.

Nice feedback from Eric. However I do agree with him, the Mets have always rushed there younger players through the systems. From Generation K to even now with Gomez and Pelfrey. However Guerra does look the most promising of the team, but also agree with you that it is hard to recognize a bunch of the players.

I think sometimes players get rushed (Pelfrey), but other times Minaya is trying to challenge them to see how they respond to better talents.

In the case of Fernando Martinez, he was simply rushed. He proved to be more than challenged in high A ball last year, with a line of .193/.254./.387. He was only there for 30 games at the age of 17, so it's not as if he spent an entire year there and he needed to be moved along, or if he was too old for that level. It is absolutely stupid to mess with a prospect of that status, and he is hitting under .280 in AA and hasn't started in 5 days (not sure if it was injury issues).
Sometimes it may be a challenge, but I see no sense in challenging a top prospect, just let him develop at his own pace.
