I'm liking this team.

The team did hit a slump mid season, and all of our key players are hitting less well than last year, but some of the issues with last year's team have been fixed. - OK, our pen is worse, but our bench is better. When pedro comes back our starters will be better than they were in the playoffs last year. Maybe Sosa can tighten up the bullpen and make that decent too.

Last year our hitters were tired, and our bats failed us in the St. Louis series.

This year - Milledge, Anderson, Gotay, Castro, Easley - that's some pretty good hitters off our bench. If Alou stays with us, he makes us a better hitting team.

Even though our record isn't as good as last year, I'm thinking our team is better / at least - come the end of the year, when it counts.

Lol that is funny, it is mismatch at its best I doubt NY would put Balkman on Durant unless they want Durant to score 25+

We have the best record in the east - and a 4 game lead.

Yeah - I think playoffs are pretty much in the cards at this point, especially since the team appears to be getting it together. Wright is hitting, and Pedro's coming back.

Im still amazed about how many writers are writing us off, that the Braves are going to come back and take the division from us. Looking at the rest of the schedule we have, its not that hard. Especially the final five series for the most part. We play the Marlins and Nats twice.

This team is starting to finally hit, were playing with the energy from last year. Pedro is coming back, who cares about his velocity when you have his change up.

Also dont forget we can still make a move if someone is put on waivers, so that still leaves options out there.
Jazz: Under reconstruction, we'll be back.

Well, I confess, I was nervous for a while.

But I'm really liking Milledge. - He's looking awful good. (Glad Omar wouldn't trade him).

I think Alou makes us better and Castillo should make us better too.

and we've got some pretty good pop on our bench now.

When Pedro comes back (and if Beltran comes back strong - note - that's an If, not a When) - look out.

Braves are good, but so are we, and we have a 4 or 5 game lead.

as a PS - I'm really impressed with El Duque this year - I'd pretty much written him off, but he's been very solid. I expected solid seasons from Maine & Perez and this is about what I expected from Glavin. I didn't expect this much from El Duque.

It seem sto me that the national media in general and the NY media in particular are anti-Met so this doeasn't surprise me. The local coverage is all Yankees all the time despite the fact that they aren't all that good - the Mets are clearly better. Don't even ask me waht the fascination is with the Braves - 14 division championships and one WS win.

im not so sure we are being "written off" per se... but there isnt a real big story with the mets right now. No drama, no controversies or scandals. The mets are the mets, second fiddle in the media to the yankees.

We play like a team. We know how to win slugfests, scrappy games, pitching games, defensive games and everything in between- that can't be said about most of the top teir teams. Any given night, we can beat you a number of different ways because of our youth and managing.

Pedro starting @86-88mph > sosa (at this point), brian lawrence, sele, and pelfrey.

Even still people think the Braves will win the division this year, yet people seem to overlook that we have the third best record in baseball. Also Pedro's change up > any of those pitchers on there best days.

ahh let them think that. they dont realize that the braves have NEVER threatened us in the east at ANY POINT in the year.

let them continue to think maine and perez arent the real deal. Let them think elduque throws 85 and is 44 years old. I dont really have a problem with it.

but dont forget, its not like the braves are a bad team either (or the phillies)

can someone figure out what our record would be if we just played 500 ball in our "slump"?

we might have 70 wins....

I agree with you that the Yanks get all the coverage, but the Yanks aren't bad, and its not accurate to say they "aren't that good". They've made a strong run to get back into the wild card race and they are hitting the cover off the ball. THey have holes, but they are a good team.
