Ouch. He's going to have a lot to prove next season, to this point he hasn't really done much since low A ball. He's got all the tools and talent, but he is going to have to show some things next season as he repeats AA.

i'm sick of this guy. always injuried, still only 19. next year if we can get some real value for him (like a willis {obviously sign/trade} or someone of that calibar) we gotta do it. we already have gomez/milledge for the OF spots.

First of all, Fernando is 18 and second of all he isn't worth Willis. In fact he's worth Willis AND Cabrera ... the potential of this kid is very great. Last year in the fall league he was the only teenager there and he was raking against MLB caliber pitchers.

Sick of the kid?? there's only 26 games left to the season, let his hand heal fast. Sheesh did you want to give up on Reyes that easily as well??

King Fernando is untouchable!!!!!!!!

unless beltran/gomez/milledge is gone or if he's not going to move to 1b, we don't need him. he's worth a young CY young-type player. (i used willis as ae xample. but he's a lil to much ??? for me).

i'd trade him for a guy like jake peavy.

 . Jesus Martinez aka King Fernando. One of the best OF prospects in the entire milb.

I agree, he has to prove he can play a full year healthy. It was actaully A ball that he dominated but that really doesnt matter. He struggled to end the season in few at bats in St Lucie but the Mets still premoted him to AA where he was the youngest player in the entire league still holding his own while batting inconsistantly in the order. He had one hot month and 2 mediocore ones. Injuries shut him down. He'll probably play winterball and return to AA next year.

Sick of this guy? For one, he wont be in the majors until he's 21 probably, that's years away. 2, Dontrelle Willis is terrible. He can't duplicate his mechanics, he is inconcistent and he walks a ton.

Your silly for thinking Fernando is worth anything close to Cabrera.

Your silly to if you think SD will trade Jake Peavy. Fernando isnt worth a Cy Young pitcher, he hasnt proved he could play a full season.

So Jose Tabata and Fernando Martinez will meet in the Eastern League next year. :)

I can't wait. Now we'll get a really good comparision on who is better.

For the record, I think Martinez has more power potential while Tabata will hit for a high average.

i'm not saying SD would trade him for peavy but that's who i'd trade 'nando for. i think milledge/gomez will end up being better.

if possible, next year we should trade this guy for a young/ace potential type guy if he can't stay healthy.

Honestly at this point with the way Milledge is playing, and the glimpses that Gomez should us I think that paved the way for Fernando to be shipped out. I have to think he will be traded for a SP, however not a chance we can get Peavy. Someone like Oswalt however could be an interesting name if he pops up again.

Also Santana might force his way out while they can still trade him... Just saying.

Actually it's not that bad now that I got the full news. Fernando is getting hamate surgery. It's becoming more common and only takes 6-8 weeks to fully recover. It wonder hinder him. He'll be 19 at AA next year which is still pretty damn amazing.

Gomez had the same surgery in early july and is coming back in september.

Surgery on the hamate is pretty serious. The wrist area is so vital to a hitter, and sometimes guys struggle to regain their pre-injury form. Here is something from a BA article that I read because there were concerns about Tabata's cyst problem on his wrist, so I did some research at the time and came across this.

http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/fe ... wrist.html

The hamate, a hook-shaped bone in the wrist, is one of eight small bones that give the wrist joint strength and flexibility. It owes its shape to its function, which is in part to protect a sheath of tendons, blood vessels and nerves traveling from the arm to the fingers in the hand.

Wrist injuries such as Nelson's have struck several of the game's top prospects. Some, such as Nelson, Dodgers first baseman James Loney and Mariners farmhand Chris Snelling, have had a broken bone such as the hamate.
