The Mets were built to win now. They have the horses and the payroll to back that statement up. After last years bitter loss to the 85 win Cardinal team, anything less than a World Series appearance (even if we don't win it all) should mean the end of the Willie Randolph era.
He's a great guy but maybe he's not a great leader and motivator. Maybe there is a reason why he got turned down 10+ times for managerial jobs in the past that has nothing to do with his race. His in-game strategy and lineup machinations leave much to be desired. I wouldn't be sad to see him go. Ultimately, it's the players who should bear the brunt of the responsibility but I think Willie is just as culpable for many of the losses so far this year. Bobby V would have some of these guys walking the plank by now...
Thoughts?

wright is an mvp candidate, castillo is batting 300 and plays gold glover 2b, beltran is a gold glove cfer and is on pace for 30+ jacks 100+ rbis, alou in limited action is batting 313 with 9homeruns and 31rbis.. so i dont see where your going with that.. the bullpen sux but aside from that the team is solid offensively and defensively.. also i find it hilarious that you sweep the bosox and come over here and talk sh*t when the mets get swept when no met fans were over there when the orioles were sweepin u guys and we were on fire.. mets have had twice the injuries of any team, no pedro, no duaner, alou missed most of season, beltran missed time, chavez missed most of season, gomez same, loduca missed time, castros been out, valentines out, easleys out, padilla again missed the season.. these arent just scrubs getting hurt..
everyone i named is a HUGE part of the mets this year and the past 1-2 seasons, willie got us within 1 game of the ws last year and we are still in first this year, ANY1 he puts out to pitch in the bullpen gets bombed, i mean he brings in feliciano to face a left who was money the last year and a half and he cant get an out, heilman gives up a homerun every time the game is on the line, wagner cant save a big game for sh*t.. the bullpen blew 7 games the first 117 games, and 7 games since that mark, wed be up at least 6 games on every1 if they werent complete sh*t lately..
willie is not the best gameday manager, but he works wonders with young players, reyes wright gomez milledge gotay, all have been great, thats not a coincidence, hes a great teacher, im not firing a guy like that while we are in FIRST place.. the phillies and braves are not sh*t teams, its not like we are leading a crap division, no1 has a great record but just look at the phillies and braves roster and tell me they arent solid teams? rollins, utley, howard, rowand, victorino, burrell aka babe ruth when we play him, and similar pitching to us(sh*t bullpen, lil worse starting rotation)... atlanta has a healthy chipper who is just raking, slumping andruw jonesbut its still andruw jones, texiera, renteria, smoltz, hudson, that young backup SS whos nice i forget name, mccann, johnson, etcetc

Meh. This is a crap division we were expected to win easily. The Mets, on paper, are far better than the Braves and Phills. If players like Beltran and Delgado played to form, we'd be cake walking right now. Those two teams are just playing inspired, passionate ball right now and we're mailing it in. I can't mince words right now. WE SUCK. We better wake the f*** up in ATL or look forward to going home early...

were far better with an allstar delgado.. but we know how thats going.. beltran is playing in form.. 25+ homeruns 80+ rbis usual good D, 275 avg.. homeruns are way down this year, its delgado whos killing us and the fact that our pitching and batting is never on the same page, we keep losiing 10-8 or 3-2.. no gems on the mound with 5+ runs anymore, every game is close cause when one side does well the other doesnt.

While I respect your infinite knowledge as a Yankee troll, er, fan, this is essentially the same 97 win team as last year with the two notable exceptions being Pedro Martinez and Duaner Sanchez. The expectations were that we'd easily win this division.
I swear, it's fans like you who bring down the Yankee hate...
Willie's decision-making does confound me to a certain degree BUT the same team?
Starters: Pedro/Glavine/Duque/Trachsel vs Glavine/Duque/Maine/Perez
Second: Valentin vs. Hernandez/Gotay... now we have Castillo
Left: Cliffy vs. Alou (injured half the year), Chavez (injured for half the year)
Right: Nady vs Green (now platooned with Milledge)
The Carlos'es have stunk it up most of the year, with Beltran (somewhat) pulling it together.
Wright has been up & down.
Bullpen: ATROCIOUS compared to last year, except Wagner who's looking worn lately.
Yes, the team is built to win now, but with injuries and sluggers having off years, it's hard to pin this on the manager.

gotta put some of this on the players, people. that's kinda why i like how he manages. puts guys in to do what they're paid to do. when a mets game goes south, 9 out of 10 times you see an interview with a guy who says they "didn't come through today."
whether perez, delgado, wagner or whoever else.
