Hanley: .333avg, .390Obp, 28hr, 75Rbi, 50SB, 44Dbls, 6Trpls, 200hts

Reyes: .288avg, .361Obp, 10hr, 50Rbi, 78SB, 34Dbls, 12Trpls, 183hts

Even though Reyes has over 30 more At-Bats than Hanley, Hanley still leads him in basically every category. No question Reyes is the faster runner though.

With that said, Hanley should get a 30-30 (Hr+SB), one of only a handful of middle infielders to ever do it.

Well, we've had this discussion many times in the past. With our recent series, seemed like the most appropriate time to bring it up again. Especially with the end of the year approaching, we can now really evaluate our players based on facts and not hype. (Except for our current series) Good luck the rest of the way.

Hanley better than Reyes yet?

I don't know if he's better than Reyes yet, but I'm just glad Ray Handley no longer coaches the Giants...

I thought the Marilns were going to surpass the mets this year.


That being said, Hanley's having a better year, but that doesn't mean hes the better player. Time will tell.

It appears that he may be a better power numbers guy (HR/RBI). Does that translate into being a better over-all player? NO!!!

Reyes will always be the better defensive player, thats what makes the choice for me easy. There is not one person that is going to argue that Hanley is not the better offensive player, though Reyes impacts the offensive side almost as much. Until Hanley learns how to play better defense ill always go with Reyes.

Though I dont mind watching them becoming the next Jeter/Nomar type division rivalry.

its going to suck when the mets sign hanley to play second

based on the trades florida has made in the past i'm sure we could put a deal together for him

appropriate for who? reyes is in the biggest slump of his career and now you decide to make the comparison? even with his numbers reduced from the slump id take reyes who is much better on D, has around 80sb, and still bats around 300..

All players go through slumps during the year. Hanley has had his. Reyes has had his. Each guy at different times but it's all equal. I picked now as the most appropriate time because the year is almost over...both will have been through slumps and both will have their stats stay virtually unchanged for the remaining of the year.

Reyes is a bit better with the glove at this point and a bit faster. Hanley is better in basically everything else, and like the stats show...there's a lot more to baseball. And no he doesn't bat around 300...unless .286 is "around 300". That's his career avg...and only 3-points under what he bats this year so it's pretty accurate.

This year, at least, Reyes is the 3rd best SS in the NL East. And if Renteria didn't get hurt during his great year this year...who knows where Reyes would end up.

Out of the other 4 teams in the NL East, only one starting SS has a worse batting average than Reyes...National's Lopez. He's also number 3 out of 5 in the division in OBP. Hardly numbers that support him even being the best SS in NL East.

And when I went to check his "slump" I noticed that out of the 6 months of the year...only 2 of them did he bat well (great actually w/ .356, .330) but the other 4 months he batted bad (.268, .265, .272, .240). So which one is the "streak"?

I think anyone with common math understanding would say that it's more likely that he is a .265 hitter that had two great months than say he's a .340 hitter that had 4 bad months. Or we can go the simple route and just go by his avg and say he's a .289 hitter.

Hanley on the other hand, has been very consistent. He's had 5 good/great months and 1 "fair" month. (.365, .279, .330, .424, .292, .354)

So I don't want to hear about slumps...4 months is not a slump. That's just plain playing bad.

Easily. Hanley won't be at SS much longer tho...

if you have yet to put together a legit trade for the D Train, what makes you think you can for Hanley?

The only thing Hanley Ramirez is better at Reyes is being a complete jackass. This is what this fool said after the game.
