Honestly at this point first thing we need to do is evaluate what direction this team wants go in. Castillo, Alou, Lo Duca and Green are all free agents. I think we need to retain Castillo, its hurts me to say this but we shouldnt resign Alou. We need to continue to infuse youth on this team with Milledge and Gomez. We would still have Chavez on the bench.

Onto Lo Duca, say what you want but he handles the pitching staff great. However he opens his mouth way to much, though sometimes needed. Pressing issue is what FA could even replace him? Im sure a lot of people would want I-Rod but he is to old at this point.

Onto the pitching staff, this is going to be completely revamped. Sele, Lawerence and Glavine are all going to be gone. What is going to be the status of the ageless El Duque? We need to bring Humber and Pelfrey and keep them around from day one. Were looking at Perez, Maine, Pedro and the two kids.

Bullpen is a whole other issue. Felicaino, Smith and Wagner are going to be back. The rest is going to be patched together from the minors and FA signings.

Free agents pitchers that Id like us to take a look at.
-Hitoki Iwase
-Octavio Dotel
-Kerry Wood

Its going to be a long ride...

at catcher, the obvious choice if you want a legit starter next year is either Pudge or LoDuca. I don't know if there are any others out there. Pudge might be worth looking at. He's a year olde rthan Lo Duc, but I think he's still better.

2nd base, I'd go with Castillo and not keep Valentin. Silly to keep both.

OF, Beltran, Lastings, and I'd keep Alou. Gomez hasn't shown enough that he's ready to start yet. let Gomez & Chavez be the guys off the bench.

Green, mixed feelings as he had a pretty good year but I think you have to let him go.

Glavin - I think Glavin will retire.

Rotation next year

Pedro
El Duque
Maine
Perez
Pelfrey

I don't know. This team could use something. What do you think about signign Adam Dunn and letting Alou go?

Alou can hit though. I might just bring him back and sign a starting pitcher and a reliever.

Re-sign Alou and Castillo. Let Glavine go. I would Sign Barrett at C, I don't like Loduca a whole lot. ONe thing I can't understand Minaya loves guys that throw hard, so why the HELLLLL did he trade Henry Owens and Matt Lindstorm????

Do you think you guys would go after Posada? Him and Willie obviously have a great relationship. Personally I want him back with the Yanks but realize the Mets could come hard after him.

I doubt the Yankees will let the Mets sign him. I think they'll give him what he wants.

posada is a True Yankee(tm), no chance we sign him.

keep castillo; gotay isn't an everyday player (yet?)

go after barrett; lo duca is meh, castro would be a joke as the everyday guy

sign alou if he's willing to sign for cheap; gomez is nowhere near major league ready.

there's a decent amount of relief pitchers on the market

1. Posada is definitely a true yankee, no chance for him.

2. I would offer Castillo for cheap, very cheap. If not, get the compensation and let Gotay start. Gotay has shown the ability to take pitches, wait for his pitch and he rakes against righties.

3. Our catcher position I have no idea. Barrett sucks, LoDuca NO THANKS. I would go after Pudge for a 2 year contract. He isnt a high OBP, no longer a power hitter and not what he used be defensively but he's one hell of a vocal leader and a champion. Can definitely help the younger guys int he pitching staff. I'd definitely bring back castro, he and Pudge would be a very nice 1-2 punch.

4. We have a player option for Alou, for 7.5 Million. Hell be back, he should. Gomez is ready IMO, but he'll probably spend the year at AAA until Alou makes his yearly DL stint.

5. RP, I say we go after some of the japanese relievers.

pudge's numbers are hardly better than barrett's (this year), and pudge will want a lot more money than barrett.

i disagree that gomez is ready. he consistently looks overmatched at the plate.

I don't mind Puca coming back (he's a gamer). But he's starting to break down, so maybe a younger alternative would be better. We should also make a run at Whore-Hey. At the very least, drive his price up for the Yanks. I don't know how we'll get rid of Delgado. I'd definitely try to retain Castillo. He's a gamer too. We have some young, cheap backups behind him just in case. I'd actually like to retain Alou, and possibly even Green, but at very low prices. I think the major overhaul lies in the pitching corps. We NEED a young stud. We've got to put some (maybe most) of what we have on the table for Santana, or even Willis. We should cut the chord with Glavine.

I still think Willie's head on the chopping block should be up for discussion by the brass. We had the talent to lead the division for over four months. Omar should feel terribly insulted at how things turned out. Yeah, he deserves blame too, but I'd rather keep him over Willie. And if they do trade Reyes, then maybe Willie can stay (I know that sounds whack right now). But they have to make a big move this offseason, and someone has to take the fall for the worst collapse in the history of the game.

Where to start and where to end?

I think we need to throw the farm at 2 good starting pitchers. I would throw anything for Dontrelle Willis and another young pitcher. Pitching is obviously what is our achilles' heel. Get rid of Glavine, he's over the hill. Keep El Duque.

So you want to go into the year with: Pedro, Maine, Perez, 2 new starting pitchers, Humber, Pelfrey and Duque.

Bullpen: Got to get some players to revamp it. We need a lights out lefty and a better set up man. Heilman will not be that set up man because he ultimately wants to be a starter and he still hasn't recovered since Game 7 of 2006 NLCS.

Got to get rid of Reyes. I am sorry, he is garbage and he is on drugs. The guy was in such a funk the last two months out of the year and he wasn't himself. He has to go, I don't care. He really does, he is not going to recover from this season.

You need to upgrade the 1st baseman position, our outfield is fine IMO. Catcher, you might want to take a look at Pudge or Posada, they are good catchers if you are not going to keep Lo Duca (who is fine btw). I wouldn't call for his head.

But the first thing we need to solve is starting pitching. If Minaya does not figure out a way to get a stud/good starter, then he should be fired. This is what we lacked last year in the playoffs and this year has exposed our weakness.
