From 1990-2007, only one team won a world series without one great ace. That was the 2004 FL Marlins. I feel we have a chance at: Jake Peavy, Johan Santana, Danny Haren (but we must get crosby in the deal as well), Brandon Webb, Roy Halladay then we should do it. Pitching is much more important than a leadoff hitter. Although Jose is only 24 and has the potential to be as good as Ricky, fact is teams win with great pitching and we don't have that.

a staff of: (Ace)/Pedro/Maine/Perez/Pelfrey is very impressive and will solidify our chances at a WS.

Reyes isn't even the best SS in his own city (Jeter), let alone division (Hanley)...

When you give up a talent like Reyes, the only player that's worth trading for is Johan Santana. If we can't get Santana, there's no reason to give up on Reyes.

Um, Jake Peavy just signed an extension with the Padres, so he's very unlikely to be going anywhere. And I seriously doubt a small-budget team like the Diamondbacks would trade a relatively cheap ace for a pricier SS when they already have Stephen Drew on their roster. You don't trade Reyes for anything unless Pujols was offered for him. We should have chips to trade to get the ACE, not trade one of our core players(would open another hole) for one.

Here is a equation for everyone that wants to trade Reyes. Now lets take a lesson from Professor Reyes.

- Reyes Hot = Win.
- Reyes Normal = Win.
- Reyes Cole = Lose.

Its as simple as that, Reyes drives this team. He slumped the second
half and we went into a downward spiral. Reyes gets on base, he proceeds to steal them and causes havoc. He takes pressure off of the hitters and puts a smile on everyone faces. You dont break up Wright and Reyes, you just dont.

Just about every team in baseball would salivate at the idea of getting Reyes, yet people want to move him. Amazing. 24 years old, all star and only getting better.

I realize that it's easier to fill the short stop position with a stud than get a top, #1 in the rotation pitcher - so, value wise, I get the suggestion.


But I just can't in my heart - feel good about trading Reyes for Santana. If the Sox offered Beckett and Papelbon for Reyes - I'd do that, but, it would take 2 pitchers for me to accept.

I'm with Omar on this one - "no trading Reyes or Wright" I'd rather go into next year with Pedro as our #1 than trade either of those guys.

It goes beyond that. I'm starting to get bad vibes from Reyes. He's starting to develop bad habits, as well as cop a bad 'tude. Just like Milledge, we might regret not trading a chip at its highest value for the best pitcher in the game.

Somebody posted that - said he had it on good authority, but the rumor (on this board anyway) was shot down, because Baseball has random drug testing. It's the kind of thing a player probably wouldn't get away with.


So, there was a "rumor", but as far as the legitimacy to the Rumor - survey says "Highly Suspect". - now if anyone has more info - please post, but till then - this rumor is toast.

too many holes to fill just to fill another hole

it is NOT easy to find a pretty good SS. good-hitting shortstops are the rarest (just about even with catchers) of players, and they are far too valuable to trade, especially when they're 23 YEARS OLD. come on people.
