Crawford or Rios?

does anyone think that there is a chance we could possibly go after an outfielder such as Carl Crawford or Alex Rios. Both have been talked about in trade rumors w/ other teams. We could package some of our pitching prospects ex. Pelfrey, Humber, Mulvey; Ryan Church, and maybe a lower prospect like Bobby Parnell or Mike Carp to get one of these guys.

Right now, Pelf is our #5 guy. Period, end of story, and giving up a starting pitcher for an upgrade in the OF doesn't seem the wisest of moves.
Yeah - maybe our OF is a little depleated right now with Beltran, Church, Alou (Mr. half a season) and Gomez and Chavez as backups. So a guy like Crawford would be nice.
But it's not our biggest need. I certainly wouldn't offer a lot of prospects and no way I include Pelfrey.

what if we packaged Heilman who could be a 4 or 5 starter for either team w/ Humber, Church and two lower prospects. Heilman could be expendable now that we got this Wise guy and Sanchez could be back.
the reason i would propose this trade is that i think either one could complete our lineup whether Crawford adds more speed or Rios adds more power. plus imagine our outfield next year, Gomez, Beltran, Rios or Crawford w/ Chavez as #4. young w/ lots of speed and good power!!

Rios was rumored to go for Lincecum or Cain, we dont have a pitching prospect that can match up to them two. Even though it was the Giants who backed out of that trade. Crawford I would love to have, but with the trade of Young there is no way they will move him. The Rays have enough pitching prospect for a lifetime now, they need position players.

Look at the D-Rays OF over the past four years, they just breed OF's for a living. Last thing they need is more OF's.

what if we tried to make a deal for Adam Dunn, he could play RF for us this year, then when Degado leaves next year he could take over 1B for us. his power would be great for the middle of the lineup

I'm no pitching coach, but I'm not sold on Humber, so I would move him (while Pelfrey I think we need to figure is in the rotation for now).
Heilman - that scares me more, as I think our pen would be in danger of being too weak if we did that.
Church & maybe a Prospect or two.
Just me personally, but I wouldn't do it cause I'd be scared to give up Heilman (remember, the offer is Heilman plus humber plus prospect plus Church) and basically all this is just to get an upgrade over Church, which Crawford is.
I'd rather have Crawford over Rios, as Crawford is a lefty and I think our lineup benefits by having a lefty hitter.
It's interesting, but I wouldn't do it (and I'm not sure Tampa does it either). Mostly, I'd be worried about our pen if we did this. But I won't critisize you for wanting to do it. I tend to be concervative when it comes to making trades in baseball.
Ofcourse, the question remains - if Heilman/Humber are part of a package to get us a starting pitcher (and maybe move Duque to the Pen) - what would you rather have, a starting pitcher or Carl Crawford?

rios career OPS+: 105
crawford: 103.
and crawford destroys him in stolen bases. everybody's talking about rios because of the home run derby performance. zzz

Rios is a 5 tools guy, he is going to become a superstar one day, he is not overrated you just heard about him because of the home run derby but he's been selected to 2 all stars game already. He is going to get stronger and has a great arm. My 2 cents

When posting on these boards, you know who Rios is. The Jay fans can never get enough of him. However in terms of need for this team Crawford fits in so much better in my opinion. However we have no shot at landing either one of these guys so its all in vain. Either way id welcome either one, but give me Crawford any day.

It's in another thread, but the more I think about it, the more I like the Kenny Lofton idea. He's a free agent, wouldn't cost that much and he'd fit right in. Nice hitter, good speed, doesn't have to play every day, but he can if we need him to. Not as good as Crawford, but close enough, and available.
Or we could sign Barry Bonds.
