Pelfrey... Arrived?

Back to back outstanding starts for him. Is this a product of Pelfrey finally arriving to be the pitcher he was supposed to be, or is this just a product of spring training? All I know is that his secondary pitches have really come a long way since last year.

santana and pedro are locks
maine and perez are preety much locks too
that leaves pelfrey and dukes....duke said he wont go to the pen...id much rather have pelfrey in there, good young pitcher...so what do we do

I know he's had a couple nice outings, but I didn't get the chance to see either one. My concern with Pelfrey is that he has only one pitch, that nasty fastball that moves down and in. He doesn't have a second pitch and had trouble, at least last year, controlling his fast ball. For those reasons, I thought that we should move Pelfrey into the bullpen and make part the committee pitching the 6th and 7th innings. Let him develop his confidence, and second pitch, pitching an inning or two at a time. Meanwhile, we can then give Aaron Heilman the chance he's been asking to be the no. 5 starter. Heilman's fast ball is almost as good as Pelfrey's, and he can control it. Plus, Heilman has a nasty second pitch - his change-up - which he also throws for strikes.
If given the chance, Heilman could win 10 to 15 games.

no way heilman can move to the starting job this late...mets wouldnt do that...but i like the idea

he pitched well last spring too...

Pelfrey has needs a good change up and he needs to change speeds more. I think he's always over throwing which makes him erratic at times. I think the Mets have the worst pitching intructors in baseball. We haven't had someone come through our system and be good for at least two decades.

Worst? really? I thought Peterson was one of the best.
Though, at least via farm team, you do have a point.
Not much has come through our system, but Bobby Jones wasn't bad.
Dotel, Kazmir, Heilman, Banister (OK, we traded away 3 of them),
Anthony Young in 1991, he's still in the MLB record books.
and I think Humber would have been good if not for his surgury.
The guys coming out of the Minors have looked a lot better over the last 3-4 years. A lot of that is drafting and a lot of it is luck.

I thought Peterson was one of the best.
he is one of the best. if im correct, he was the one who made Zito, Hudson, and Mulder the nasty three they used to be. Plus he turned Maine back into the top prospect he once was and Perez is still getting better.

c;mon now rick peterson is one of the best. its also a confidence thing with pelfrey if he gets in trouble he starts to think he cant rely on anything but his fastball
