The Mets informed Ruben Gotay this morning that he is indeed on waivers and now must wait until later today or tomorrow to see if he is claimed.

Gotay was supposed to be on today's trip to Orlando, but with his duffel bag in front of him, he sat on his stool with tears in his eyes as he talked on his cell phone.

"I thought I did a good job last year," Gotay said. "I didn't think I deserved this. "

Dumb move....

do i like Gotay leaving in favor of Tatis?? of course not but the Mets had no need for a a guy who can't lefties and plays 2B.

no doubt

same with Milledge

the guy thinks all he needs is an old ass veteran team and he'll win the WS

the dunce has learned nothing from those bust yankee teams from 2002-2005

I think people are blowing this way out of proportion really, it was Gotay were talking about. He was still a liability on defense up the middle and had no spot with Castillo here.

All of you guys are WAY way WAY overreacting here..

Gotay has no place on this team to play everyday. He was a good bat off the bench for us, but we are so loaded on the left side of the plate, he is really expendable.

We just signed Castillo for 4 years, so where is Gotay going to play regularly on this team?? huh? eh?

He couldve been an important piece off the bench as a bat in the playoffs, but he is so non-versatile defensively, that he actually might be hurting us in terms of pinch hitting options.

I said this before....Omar doesn't know what he's doing. We didn't get bullpen help. Instead we picked up otions on Alomar who's already hurt, trade Milledge, waive Gotay and sign a singles hitter like Castillo for 4 years? You mean Gotay couldn't hit singles. Oh yeah...Castillo injury prone too! Mets won't win the east. I'll be leaving the stadium again this year by the 7th inning. :banghead:

Alomar isn't a Met ... you must be talking about Alou, who could've the Mets signed to play LF??

Alou hit .340 last year and still has it, he won't be here next season

bullpen help?? every team needs bullpen help. have you seen the Cowards and Philthies bullpen??

the Milledge trade was more of a image move, the Mets knew Milledge had talent but as long as he was a Met he'd have the media all over him. we have Ryan Church who'll be good for the team, he plays good defense in RF and will provide good offense.

OMG WE TRADED GOTAY!!!????!!!!! who cares, he's not even getting playing time with the Cowards.

and why are you bashing Castillo?? he's a great hitter and gets on base. not to mention he's a great fielder, something Gotay isn't.

and Castillo is not injury proned, stop making up stuff.

fine, leave at the 7th inning ... in fact don't bother showing up. the way you're sounding is as if you started becoming a Met fan when you found out they made the playoffs in 2006 ... jeez, guess you don't know Omar got Santana so now you know incase you didn't.

I've been a fan since Rusty & Hubey! I hate to see home grown talent sent away for old guys who play one forth of the season!

huh??

Mets didn't trade anyone for an old player who's playing 1/4 of a season. the Royals traded Gotay to the Mets when he was 23 years old ... you'd think the Royals would keep him since he's gonna be the best player in MLB history.

and since you continue to think Castillo is an injury proned player, his fewest career games he's played in his career was in 2005 and that year he played 122 games. he had a .301 ba and a .391 obp ... something Gotay will never have.

you really think we're going to lose the division because we don't have a bench player who happened to hit well in a small sample size?
