Yeah, I know, we've got a whole season to play, and Tex is on everyone's list.


But if we don't get tex, who do you see this team signing to play first base. It's almost a given that Gado is gone, and Nomar isn't hitting the ball any better than Gado this year.


I had a silly idea - how about Jeff Kent? If we sign Kent, we could drop Easley from the roster next year. Kent could be our starting first baseman and backup 2nd baseman. Kent can still hit some and he'd be around for maybe 2-3 years, while we develope Carp and/or Evans.

I don't know.... if we win the WS I can definitely see us shipping a boatload to Tex to solidify our supremacy.

The Wilpon's have spent a ton of money this past season, and there are too many question marks.

I'm sure we'll evaluate Carp.
What do we do with Alou? is Fmart ready?
What do we do with Heilman?
What do we do with Pedro?
What do we do with Ollie?
What do we do with Delgado?

This team is definitely at a crossroads. The brightside is that all of these guys are type A free agents, so we'll definitely be getting picks back if they move on...

I personally would like us to resign Ollie and Pedro and make a big run at Tex, but I don't think it will happen... Tex + Yankees seems too much like a match made in heaven.

We'll see... it will definitely be a busy offseason, much more so than this last one.

For our 1st base spot hopefully we'll have traded for Nady, and he could platoon with one our young guys. If we don't get Nady i wouldn't mind getting Nomar or Hinske.

In LF, F-mart could platoon with Pagan or Chavez. Or maybe we could bring back Floyd or Payton to back him up and Pinch Hit.

I doubt we get Teixeira. Yankees have a ton of money to spend after this season and they will need a 1st baseman. I would love to see what Carp and Evans can do. Good riddance to Delgado.

First move I make is paying some team to take Castillo off our hands. Then I go after the guy I wanted this season to play 2nd base, Orlando Hudson who will be a FA. He and Reyes would make a sick DP combination as I believe Hudson is the best defensive 2nd baseman in baseball. The guy is simply incredible with the glove and has tremendous range. Plus he can easily slide in the #2 hole behind Reyes. Good riddance to Castillo.

After that, I probably would not resign Perez because Borass is his agent and will ask for too many years and waaaaaaay too much money. He's far to inconsistent to give multiple years and mega dollars. Goodbye Ollie.

LF Alou is gone. Can't rely on him and he'll probably retire anyway. I'd take a long look at FMart but also have my eye on a stop gap LF until he's ready. Who that is, I don't know, leave it up to Omar.

Heilman get rid of him. Omar needs to add another solid bullpen arm to replace Heilman. Maybe look to Japan?

Pedro is a tough call. I can definitely see Omar bringing him back, overpaying and of course he'll be hurt for half the season. Omar needs to work his magic and find us another Maine, otherwise we're in trouble for next season as far as starting pitching goes. Pelfrey MUST get better, if he does, then we have 3 solid starters.

I don't want Tex, not because he isn't good but because I don't want the Cowards having the Mets 1st rounder next year.

and I like Carp ... but his glove isn't that good and he can't hit lefties, although he's done a great job against them this year.

Evans seems like a platoon guy right now along with Murphy ... but it's a good thing that the Mets organization is making Carp, Evans, and Murphy all play 1B, 3B, and the OF this year to increase their chances of making the big leagues.

there's also a chance Wright can be moved to 1B since he's horrible at throwing but when it comes to diving to the ball, he's very good.

Castillo isn't going anywhere, his game might be disgusting but in the end of the season he'll hit .290 with a .370 obp.

and you can forget about Hudson, last time I checked he wants 15 mill a year.

as of right now, Fernando isn't ready ... but who knows, he could go on a tear in AA.

Kunz will replace Heilman next year, Kunz throws a 97 mph sinker and could be our potential closer of the future. the Mets also had Brant Rustich but converted him into a starter which is dumb, but the kid disgusting stuff ... not a lot of control though.

the Mets also have Carlos Muniz who even though doesn't throw hard, is a good strikeout pitcher. he hasn't given up a run so far in AAA/MLB and he's a closer so he doesn't get scared in pressure situations like Heilman.

you gotta bring Pedro back ... he brings credability to this franchise and if he wasn't here then Fernando Martinez wouldn't be a Met.

Jon Niese will have a big shot at making the club next year as a starter, he'll be a decent #4/#5 pitcher. the Mets organization likes him a lot.

Delgado sucks defensively at first wiith regards to range so how much worse could Carp be? We can platoon Carp and Evans next season and see if one breaks out. 1st base isn't that difficult to fill if either one doesn't pan out.

Not sure about Wright at first. Guy can still pick it with the best of them. All mental with him as far as throwing. Hopefully as he matures and gains confidence, he won't make as many crazy throws. Also third base is a VERY difficult position to fill if we move Wright to first.

I don't know about that, can't hit .290 with a .370 obp when your physically breaking down. Dude has gimpy knees.

As for Hudson, I am sooooo in love with him. His defense alone is worth 15 mil a year, but there is no way he gets that. I would easily give him 4 years 44 mil. With his unbelievable glove and incredible range, that guy saves sooo many base hits every year. And he's damn good at the plate with speed too. Also he's light years better in the field than Castillo.

Why? So he can break down in spring training next season? don't get me wrong, I LOVE Pedro and it bothers me that he hasn't been healthy much of the time he's been a Met, but you need to face reality and realize that you cannot rely on him anymore. So we'll see how it goes when he comes back. I have no problems bringing him back, but we cannot rely on him. So with Ollie gone and if Pelfrey is still in the sh*tter, Omar is going to have to find us another Maine.

You know our minor league pitchers better than I do, but right now it seems we're not really producing any starters worthwhile.

And those god damn Dodgers every year they produce one stud after another on their pitching staff. Been like that ever since I've been following baseball. Omar needs to steal their scouts!

Carp has played LF and 1B this year. and you're right, Carp can't be anymore worse than Delgadold at 1B. the Mets could platoon both Evans and Carp together at 1B but I don't see Willie platooning 2 rookies together.

and if you move Wright to 1B, you can either sign a guy like Joe Crede who I think is a FA after this year, the guy is a defensive 3B. or you can put Dan Murphy there who like Carp and Evans has played multiple positions in Bingo.

there's also a chance that a guy like Justin Smoak or Yonder Alonso falls to the Mets in the draft, both are great 1B who could take 2 years in the minors to develop. Smoak is a God with the glove.

lets give Castillo until the AS break to call him damaged goods. and it's not like Hudson is a young player, he's 31 years old and he's looking for a long term contract with big time money.

he is a great defender though.

there's a solution to that .... Mets need to overslot which they never like doing. sure it's against the rules and Selig will get ticked off but if the best pitcher or position player is out there, you overslot and pay the kid the money he wants.

there's been rumors before the season that Omar could overslot in this upcoming draft ... hopefully he does this because the Mets have 3 of the first 41 picks in the draft ... if they overslot, their farm system can be a top 10 next year. and like you said, the Dodgers ooze with pitching talent as well with position talent.

I like the idea of using our minor leagers as much as possible.

Not sure Kunz will be ready next year. He's still in AA right? Muniz looks good, I think he should be in our pen next year.

and first base, both Carp & Evens are in AA. Might be too soon to count on Carp as a starter next season, even if he's hitting 400 now.


and F-Mart, definitly not ready. He may see some time next year, but please don't plan on penciling him in as an opening day starter. Ain't gonna happen.


Crazy as it sounds, I might not mind having Gado back next year, as it's just 12 million (16 for the season vs. 4 for the buyout), and use him in case Carp isn't ready, but also give Carp & Evans good looks next year. What free agent can we sign for 12 million who'd be any good?


and I wouldn't mind bringing Alou back for 1 more season either. He can still hit and Bring up F-Mart in 2009.


I like Hudson, but I think this team is committed to Castillo, unless he hits 240 for the season, then I'd rethink that.

and I'd take Pedro back too.


As far as free agents - sign the best pitcher available and I'd take Ollie back if he's not too expensive.
