The MetsNew York Mets have reached agreement with Oliver PerezOliver Perez on a three-year, $36 million contract that will be finalized when the left-hander passes a physical, the Post has learned.
The Mets know now the likely composition of their rotation with Perez joining Johan SantanaJohan Santana , Mike PelfreyMike Pelfrey , John MaineJohn Maine , and either Tim Redding or Freddy Garcia, who is trying to work his way back from injury. This all but assures that Pedro MartinezPedro Martinez will not be returning to the team.
The Mets had been haggling for a while with Perez's representative, Scott Boras. But in the end, Perez received neither a fourth year on the contract nor even an option year for a fourth year.

I know some people that dont like this deal at all, but I think its going to be a good one. I think with more tutelage from Santana he is going to turn it around for good. We all LOVE Perez when he is going up against a good team, because well he is so damn filthy. Santana was speaking highly of him and to me tat says a lot. Its three years at 12 million per. Being a lefty with potential to shut teams down is rare to come by, you have to take the bad when its associated with that.
Think about it, how many lefties are out there today you would take over him?

considering how boras and ollie wanted 5 years with 15 mill per year, this is a great deal.

It seems like a good compromise contract. We don't know which Ollie we will get over the next 3 years, but I can live with 3-36.
Go Knicks!! Go Mets!!
As for the Jets . . . just keep it entertaining.

I still believe that 12 mil/year is a bit too much for Perez. On a side note, I'm glad we didn't go after Sheets who's considering elbow surgery.

After shoring up our pen, and seeing how Sheets might be damaged goods, I wasn't too negative about bringing Ollie back. But that contract is still too big for me. I don't like it. He better earn it, and fast... or he's going to replace Eddy Curry as my favorite whipping boy...
