Fifth Starter

Post#1 » by Manhattan Project » Wed Mar 4, 2009 2:39 am

At this point in time, you have to start wondering about whose going to be the fifth starter for the Mets. It appears that the Freddy Garcia experiment is going to flop, he has looked horrible and has no velocity.

You have Tim Redding who was signed with every intention on becoming the final starter in our rotation. Seems like he is primed to win the job. You have the ageless wonder Livan Hernandez. The young pitcher in Jon Neise who has tasted a little of what its like in the big leagues. The final candidate is Brad Holt, our best pitching prospect. He dominated A ball and looks to be ahead of Mike Pelfrey at the same age. Holt will be joining the rotation, however not at this moment.

Who you got at the moment?

Tough call. Garcia may start in AAA but could get a callup. Redding probably has the best chance, but I like Livan too, so I'd be fine with either one. Either one should give more than Pedro gave us last year.
Go Knicks!! Go Mets!!

As for the Jets . . . just keep it entertaining.

Hmm... Pedro for the Dominicans the other night... 3 innings, 1 hit, 4 K's, no runs...

Pedro wants more money than we will offer.

The man has too much pride.

I'd give the job to Niese and bring him along the same way we did with Pelfrey.

Livan NEEDS to be our 5th starter. Freddy is garbage. Have Niese waiting in the wings.

I think at this point its clearly evident that Livan is going to win it. Garcia should be cut within 48 hours, Redding needs to be able to beat little leaguers first. With his last performance against the Braves, Livan etched his name in the rotation.

Niese was optioned to Buffalo. The 5th starter is very likely Livan. Parnell will supposedly make the club, for middle relief.
