Mets sign Bay for 4 years $66 m

Post#1 » by Scorpion King » Tue Dec 29, 2009 8:48 pm

This is to bno and other mets fan out there

The Mets have reached agreement on a four-year, $66 million agreement with Jason Bay pending a physical, The Post has learned.

Mets officials refused to confirm the agreement, largely because the results of a physical are not complete and the Mets do not want to embarrass themselves by confirming a deal then having to back away should Bay not pass the physical -- think the humiliation and legal hassle with Yorvit Torrealba a few years back.

And the physical might not be a formality. There has been a lot of talk in the sport that the Red Sox were hesitant to do a long-term deal with Bay because they were concerned about the health of his shoulders.

Not sure I like it. Yes it is an improvement over whoever the Mets have been throwing out there, but does Bay really have the power to sustain/improve his numbers at CitiField?

We need an outfielder so there we have it. Beltran cannot cover the outfield by himself. He'll fit right in at Citi Field. He could be a clutch type of hitter that the Mets need.

terrible, terrible signing. Now I am sure the jack-ass will trade Martinez for some bum pitcher like Aaron Harrang.

lol @ what??

36 homers, 119 rbi's, and a .921 ops(career is .892) at 16.5 mill a year??

he averages .280 ba, 33 hr, 107 rbi, and 84 bb's for his career ... that's pretty good value considering how scott boras is asking for the moon for holliday who's shown that outside of coors field he's nothing more than a 20 homerun player

Good question. But I don't think that he needs to hit a homer every time he's at the plate cause Citi Field is a pitcher's park unless you have the power in those arms. A clutch single, double, or triple works for me. If he hits 25 home runs with a 100 rbi and close to .300 than that's a gimme for the Mets. The Mets just going to have to find a spot for him in the order they hit. I wouldn't mind him hitting after Jose Reyes leading off to the plate.

Bay is not that good to be honest. He's VERY inconsistent . I'm talking about he goes through these 2 month slumps. That will not bode well in NY.

based off what, this past season with boston??

he's pretty consistent off his career ... .287 in april, .307 in may, .254 in june, .270 in july, .290 in august, and .275 in september.

also the mets somehow took all the flyballs between bay and holliday and bay's balls were homeruns and holliday's balls would be caught on the warning track in citifield. i don't know how they did that but they did it.

don't care really ... i just want castillo gone, i don't want the fat slug molina being signed, and i don't want francouer being extended because he's awful.

You're willing to pay 16.6M for #2 hitter? Those are good numbers you suggested, but I think that's stretching it. I see closer to 20HR, 75RBI, and .280BA; numbers that are great for a #2 hitter but not at 16.6M/year. Especially when you consider that the Mets are clearly expecting more than that out of Bay.

We will see. Im not jumping up and down over it. But we need a OF who can hit. Little pricey so I hope he produces.

now they are interested in zambrano.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/3160 ... a-zambrano

if they get something like perez and castillo for zambrano and 10 million and then sign orlando hudson and bengie molina than i say the mets had a really good offseason.

Rotation after the moves:
1. Santana
2. Zambrano
3. Pelfrey
4. Maine
5. Niese

Lineup:
1. Reyes
2. Hudson
3. Wright
4. Bay
5. Beltran
6. Molina
7. Francoeur
8. Murphy
9. Pitcher
:D
