Enough with the bad sports cliches. Yes, we had to win today. We also have to win tomorrow and Wednesday.

Great win tonight

Johnny came up HUGE, rbi single and the 3 tun jack, Hughes also came up HUGE, coming in and putting up 0's. I wouldve let him pitch 1 more inning though

I still expect the Yankees to force a game 5, and possibly winning it

I had to go out to watch game because stupid Cablevision can't seem to get TBS working on my TV. Just my luck that it went out around 6:40. Great game. Phil Hughes is the MVP of the series so far. Matsui snapped out of it and Arod got into it. Wanger on the mound tomorrow, I like our chances. -Jitpal

I'm just saying it's bad strategy to not factor the future into what you're doing.

It's also a bad idea to start giving Joba a Scott Proctor-level workload. The Joba Rules should change in the playoffs, sure, but the principle behind them shouldn't.

phil shouldve gone the whole game or close to it

dumb*** Joe has compromised our position for tomorrow....no Joba, and Mo for what, 1? both of them were not needed, and wouldve been able to go 4 combined tomorrow....

I'm getting picky, but the AP pissed me off with this little nugget in their recap:

With former New York City mayor and current presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani leading the cheering from his front-row seats, Alex Rodriguez stopped his postseason hitless streak at 18 at-bats with a second-inning single and also beat out an infield single.

But he remained in a 6-for-54 (.111) playoff funk with no RBIs dating to his Game 4 home run against Boston three years ago.

You know, he could have gone 4 for 4 with 4 HR and that average would still look bad.

Clearly A-Rod should have gone at least 23-for-4 to redeem himself. Basic statistics fail in the face of clutchness!

I think the real interesting thing is Joe and Cash are considering pulling Roger from the playoff roster and replacing him. I would imagine Villone, Edwar or Kennedy to replace Roger if it does come to that. -Jitpal

Giambi needs to stay in the lineup, I know Doug is an upgrade defensively, but Giambi's presence seems to help our other batters namely guys like Matsui and Arod...

We're gonna have to face him eventually. If not today in the Bronx then Wed at Cleveland.

You have to love this though, from ESPN

In Game 4, they'll be dealing with a very hittable opposing pitcher in Paul Byrd, who got shelled in his only start against the Yankees this season (2 IP, 7 ER on Aug. 11). Rather than start C.C. Sabathia, the Indians will go with Byrd on full rest.

The 36-year-old right-hander is what you call someone who pitches to contact; he had the second-worst K/9 rate in the AL among pitchers with 160 IP (4.19). Byrd's problem is that when the Yankees make contact, they tend to do a lot of damage.

This was by far the best professional sporting event i've witnessed in person. If you have never been to a postseason playoff game at the stadium visit www.stubhub.com and spend the $200.

Mo threw 10 pitches, he should be fine.
