According to the Daily News, he was in charge of compiling a list of candidates but he is not in Tampa to interview them. Hank, Hal and Randy Levine are conducting the interviews. :nonono:

Cashman, who is responsible for compiling the list of candidates, will not be in Tampa for the interviews, which will be conducted by a group including Hank and Hal Steinbrenner and team president Randy Levine. It is unknown how involved George Steinbrenner will be in the meetings.

Joe Girardi will bat leadoff in the Yankees' managerial search, as the Bombers' front office will welcome him to Legends Field today to begin the interview process.

According to a source familiar with the Yankees' plans, bench coach Don Mattingly will follow Girardi, meeting with Yankees brass in Tampa tomorrow, while first-base coach Tony Pena will be interviewed Wednesday.
