'Its All 'bout the Money'

Post#1 » by kNiCk_PriDe » Mon Oct 29, 2007 5:02 am

I thought Boras was smarter than this. The Yankees were willing to offer a 5 yr 150 mil extension. (and that was the offer) I'm sure the Yankees would have added on an extra couple years if Boras pushed, taking it up to maybe a 7 yr 210 mil extension.
On top of the 27 mil he was gonna get paid each year for the next 3 years it would have added up to 10 yrs 291 million over the next 10 years which would mean A-Rod getting paid more than 30 million when he's 42 yrs old. Now that he's a free agent, who does Boras think is gonna pay him that much? Here again, Boras' biggest problem are the Yankees. First of all, no one in their right mind is gonna give A-Rod a 10 yr contract. This isn't 2000 anymore and 10 year contracts just dont happen anymore even if you're Alex Rodriguez. (Mind you a 32 yr old Alex Rodriguez) The only player I could see getting a 10 year is Johan, but thats a different story. The most I see A-Rod going for is 8 years 200 mil. No team has the resources or balls to give him more than that. The Yankees, if they keep their word, which I really think they are, wont have any part of A-Rod or Boras. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a league wide stance against Boras after this, but that's a different story. Without the yankees uping the bid, I doubt Arod surpasses 200 million. Now the question is, where does A-Rod go? The Cubs? The Giants? As much as people think, I don't think the Cubs are gonna pay him. They're fresh off a big spending off season last year after paying Soriano, Lilly, and Ramirez. I don't think they're gonna splurge on more offense, but hold off their money till next year and get a big time pitcher, ala Johan, Peavy, Harden, etc. The Giants, I believe are the more realistic destination. They're front office has again and again shown they have no sense when it comes to baseball decisions. They have become more of a novelty act. They are fresh off the Bonds fiasco, Fresh off the ridiculous Zito contract, and while I highly doubt even they are stupid enough to offer more than 200 mil, it wouldnt be a surprise if they did. They're gonna save the 20 million or what not they were paying Bonds and give it to A-Rod. The 'next big thing in the Bay Area' lol.
The dark horse in this whole thing; the team that could screw up everything is the 'new evil empire', the fricken Saux. Boston could throw a wrench into the whole thing. Now this is a huge if, but it could happen. The only way it does is if Manny is finally moved. The Red Sox would gladly pay A-Rod what Manny is getting paid next year and more. I mean when you get a chance to trade in an aging Manny on the decline for A-Rod, despite all the BS that ARod carries, you do it. I know Boston knows bout 'manny bein manny'. wait till they start seein a arod bein arod. again, thats a different story. lol. So the only way A-Rod ups his ante is if SF and Boston get into a bidding war for A-rod. Otherwise, look forward to seeing A-Rod in black and orange. (wouldnt the knicks look kool in black and orange? nice idea for a variant) lol. btw, I hope A-Rod gets caught with the juice.

You know what, I just blabbed alot, but i almost forgot what's most important. The money was gonna be there regardless. (Probably more, if he stayed with the yankees) but what Arod ruined is his legacy. The Greatest player I ever saw in 'my' life time was Ken Griffey. After that it was Arod. I have tremendous respect for Griffey. The man had all the talent in the world. He was what Magic was for the Lakers. He was showtime. Its hard to get noticed up there in seatle, but the boy did it. It was at a time when the league was lets say, 'switiching generations' and this kid was the poster boy for it. He brought 'kool' into the league. I'm sure a lot of Seattle fans would disagree, but you dont blame Griffey for leaving. He wasn't gonna get paid in Seattle and for him it wasnt all about the money. If that was the case, Griffey would have been manning centerfield in the Bronx, and Bernie would have retired as a Red Sox. Griffey went home, and no one blames him for that. Arod just turned his legacy into a contracted mercenary. Now the world knows how phony he was. It was never about winning for him. It was all about the benjamins. As with Griffey, no one blamed him for leaving Seattle. He wasn't gonna get paid in Seattle and Tom Hicks offered him the world to come down and play in Texas. The 25 year old superstar took it. Then no one blamed the 28 yr old Alex Rodriguez for asking out of Texas because he was a superstar that deserved to win, and he would never win in Texas. Then came New York. Press confrence. Jeter, Torre, Arod. 'Im here to win'. I dont think I need to get into his 4 years here. We all know what happened. Now that New York was warming up to him, and fresh off a statistical season in Pinstripes a New Yorker hasn't seen unless he's older than 50, Arod leaves. He leaves the same day the Red Sox win the World Series. He leaves without giving the Yankees a chance. He leaves without even sitting down to talk to them; give them an explanation. He just packs his bags and leaves. Is money that important? Would 291 million dollars over 10 years not be enough for you? Would perhaps one day becoming the greatest player the famed pinstipes have ever seen not be enough for you? Going to the hall of fame in pinstripes? Having you name mentioned with the immortal yankee legends? Having your number retired in Yankee Stadium? Having a plaque out in Monument Park? Becoming the Home Run King in Pinstripes? Becoming the most honored and famous player in the world? Having the fans chear your name for generations to come? All of that wouldn't be enough for you A-Rod? Its a damn shame, cuz honestly I'd kill to be all of that, and I'd be happy doing it for nothing more than a uniform, a pair of cleats, and a glove. I'd borrow Derek Jeter's bat. But that's just me. No one's telling you to do all that, but I think 291 million over the next 10 years to become the luckiest man in the world, to be the face of major league baseball, to have that interlocking NY on your chest is damn good. I learned something today. I guess it really is all bout the money, cuz I always thought, despite all the money and the perks, deep down inside, it was for the love of the game. Guess I was wrong. It really is all bout the money. Good Luck A-Rod. Have fun spending the cash.

thanks for your thoughts

i think the basic premise you bring up is right: if he doesnt want to play for one of the most storied franchised in the WORLD at a rate of CLOSE to if not at 30 mill + have a chance at playoffs every year + have the chance to break all the records with one of the greatest franchise in the world then so be it...let his greedy a** go and get his money somewhere else.....

Dude, do you know what a paragraph is? Try to separate that post into paragraphs.
