ESPN and others reporting that NYY think they will be okay going into the season with Giambi and Duncan at 1st.
My question is, do you really think Shelly Duncan is ready for part-time action at 1st? Also are you comfortable with Giambi as our #1 guy to play 1st this next year? I know that these sort of statements are often used as leverage in trading or signing someone, but what if this is fact and this really happens. Thoughts?

Phillips should be the everyday guy with Duncan being part time & Giambi at DH.

I think the difference here is that there are no good free agent options at 1st while there were option @ 3rd & center.

Giambi has shown that he's still a very productive hitter when he's healthy, and we're stuck with him next year either way, so he should be in the lineup as much as possible. Beyond that, I wouldn't set anything in stone. We still have an outfield glut unless Damon gets traded, Betemit has enough talent to deserve a fair shake at at-bats, and i'm not sold on Duncan being more than a AAAA slugger. Not to mention Posada's going to need days off from behind the plate next year. Bringing back Doug isn't a bad option but i'm content to see how things play out in Spring Training and April.

I expected Duncan to get a chance. I mean he is who is but that could be .265 with 30 HR 100 RBI and 150 K's. I would just as well find someone to take Giambi off our hands even if it is the world's most expensive prospect purchase. Duncan added to Phillips and Bettimet would be fine they are going to be hitting 7th or 8th anyway.
