but what do you think it would take to get them?
im all for trading Ian Kennedy cause i firmly believe he wont live up to the great prospect everyone keeps stating. so id trade him in a heartbeat if we get a good pitcher like Haren. i like Johan but i think what we would have to trade to Sota to get him, i think we could prob get Haren and Street for the same prospects plus maybe 1 more.
think Ian Kennedy/ Tyler Clippard/ Chase Wright/ Eric Duncan/ plus one A or AA player could get it done?
if oakland has a fire sale, i want Haren/Street

I think Haren had a better year than Santana last year. Plus, I believe Haren is locked up a little longer than Santana at a very low rate. Haren is also younger. I would imagine Haren might cost a little more than Satana. In fact, I have no idea why the A's would trade him unless his workload is catching up to him.
I'm sure these two guys would be the two guys everyone would be interested in from the As. I remember reading that Clippard and Igawa could be possible for Street. If that was the case, I would go after Street hard. However that package would not get it done for Haren alone. Eric Duncan has close to no value. Chase Wright is a throw-in. Tyler Clippard has some value but he isn't what he was a year ago. -Jitpal

I'd take Street no question, I dunno what they'd want for Haren though...

Buster Olney has been digging up all sorts of good trade rumors, and I'm happy to pass along his info. Let's start with the A's.
We recently discussed Eric Chavez, who as far as we know is staying put but wouldn't get in Billy Beane's way if he decides to move him. However, with apologies to Chavez, the hot stove buzz around the A's will be focused on their young pitching.
We know Dan Haren would draw a huge bounty of three to five very good young players. We can assume that Joe Blanton would command a similar price, maybe slightly less. Olney revealed today that Billy Beane isn't likely to rebuild and try to contend simulataneously. Instead, he would have a massive fire sale. If Haren goes, Blanton and Huston Street probably would too. Olney says Beane's plan would be similar to the Marlins with Miguel Cabrera - target specific blue-chip prospects and approach those teams.
The Dodgers, Mets, Diamondbacks, and Yankees are named as teams that would figure to be in on an Oakland fire sale. Those are the clubs with top shelf prospects that are going hard after starting pitching this winter.
why i bring it up

Haren is going to be worth a fortune on the trade market because he's young and hasn't been overworked, has a good track record, pitched in the AL, and is extremely cost controlled (he is being paid $16.5 million over the next 3 seasons). He could, in theory, bring in more than Santana because Santana only has one year left on his deal before he signs his monster deal, lessening his economic trade value. I think for a mid-revenue team (the Yanks and Sox can afford Santana), Haren would be the better investment. mahalo

Why don't you think Kennedy will live up to his billing? Because he has the least potential?
I've always said that Kennedy could be a solid #2 or a very good #3 (which is a lot more than others say about him), however that isn't the ace that Hughes and Joba may be. I think Kennedy will be a good pitcher for years to come and should be an innings eater, but he just isn't on the elite level that the other 2 may be on.

i dunno i just have the feeling that he isnt gonna be better then a back of the rotation pitcher for a team like the yankees. its just a strange feeling i have, sort of like the same feeling i had with Jeff Weaver, Hideki Irabu, Carl Pavano.... no need to say more.

one thing this might do is make Minni wanna get a deal done for Santana a lot quicker and possibly a littler cheaper. Say the Twins are willing to take Kennedy (and others) in a trade instead of Hughes or Joba, if they know the 2 guys in Oakland are on NYY radar they might be more willing to get something worked out. Personally Johan is the guy I would love to see in pinstripes but if we could get one or both buys from the A's that would make for a more solid rotation.
