Leiber never actually "dominated" but in his prime was a reliable 4th starter who can pitch over 200 innings below league average era.

Rivera, Smoltz, bedard

are those better examples?

the bottom line is that the yanks believe in this surgery....also, getting people with arm trouble, paying em and fixing em up is the backdoor of getting premium talent at a low draft position
