Igawa is one ugly mofo. He looks like he has Down syndrome.

all of you are saying that it was cold

but if remember correctly, in the playoffs, it gets cold too

so its important to see how he pitches in this weather and it was awful

I agree Kandi. However, hopefully come playoff time pitchers are settled into a groove instead of being fresh out of the gate. Plus, Pavano shouldn't have such a huge layoff in between starts, Moose should be tuned up, Pettitte I'm not worried about and Wang should be his usual self. I think we will be ok then. I don't think the cold is as much of a factor as everyone's making it out to be but rahter each pitcher with their own little issue. -Jitpal

First start. He has never pitched in the big leagues before. Way too early to say he sucks.

I was at the game, and when the only pitch you can get over the plate is a 89 mph fastball, youre going to get rocked. Hitters are just going to sit back on it, let the offspeed crap go, and rock you all day. Give me Karstens, and Rasner all year ove KEI. It isnt any fun watching him pitch either. It was the same way in spring training, the guy cant throw strikes, when he misses with his fastball its up in the zone.

or ted lilly, gil meche, jason marquis, jeff suppan, etc. Hell I'd rather see Karstens/Rasner out there in his place as the 5th starter when Wang gets back, those guys can throw strikes....Rasner was pitching with two blisters on his fingers yesterday...Igawa was pitching with sunglasses on in cloudy weather.

Thats what made me laugh at the clown. What pitcher pitches with sunglasses on?!?! And the worst part about it, he looks like the Asian Napoleon Dynamite.

He 34Celtic, are you a Bostonian Yankee fan???

I'd take Igawa over those guys especially with the money they were paid. Igawa was not impressive in his first start. However, he became pretty good in the last couple spring training games. He wasn't allowing walks and he was throwing his breaking stuff for strikes. I remember Ken Singleton was saying the cold makes it very hard to get proper grip for off-speed and breaking pitches. So let's not throw the guy under the bus yet. The guy has won the Cy Young equivalent in Japan so let's cut the guy a break. Give him 3-4 more starts to adjust and then evaluate. It was cold, it was the first time he was pitching in a major league game, first time at yankee stadium, first time pitching in the sun and the list goes on you can pick whichever reasoning you like. I don't have a lot of confidence but at the moment with our ace, long man and 2nd long man all injured we need to get some innings and he has as good a chance to pitch well as anyone else. -Jitpal

I'm from Connecticut...my Dad grew up a huge Yankees fan...my grandparents and entire family are what I like to classify as borderline psychotic (Dog's named after players....my cousins first name is Mattingly) etc....Hope I'm not judged any differently around here...

I would assume that Igawa rebounds tonight as a result of the warmer weather and the fact that he got through his first start already. He was the best lefty pitcher in Japan or AAAA so one would expect once he adjusts he'll be ok. Hopefully he turns it wround tonight.
