Oh well, Joba just didn't have his slider...guess its allowed to happen every 35 innings. Rough game because of the rain and the entire pen being used, would've been a nice win.

oh , yea, this kid has a tough make up, he will be ok..

if we didn't have to use mo for a two innings last night, joba would have pitched the 8th, scoreless like he did tonight and we could have used mo for the 9th...

the rest of that pen needs to get it together..

Why would Mo pitch in the 9th? We would have needed him to close if we got the lead. Anyways, you can't be upset at this too much because there were a lot of positives, mainly Hughes. This sucks for my fantasy squad though. -Jitpal

On the road, I would hav e used mo to make sure we got to extra innings , get the lead first and then worry about holding it after i got the lead... but the key is to get there first..

So you agree with using joba two innings? just curious.

I guess you could've gone either way, but hindsight is 20/20. With RISP, hitters are hitting .042 against Joba in his ML career. So I guess Girardi took a shot with arguably the most dominant reliever in baseball right now. But I agree, walking him is probably the most logical baseball move.

Usually on the road you save the closer until you have the lead. If we were in NY I'd agree with you, but you have to try to get the most out of the middle relief in a game like tonight.

I don't think you have a choice in that situation. All you have left is Traber and Mo. Obviously, if this thing went long, Traber takes one for the team and pitches until someone scores. Problem is that would have pretty much guaranteed a loss. So yeah, I would have brought Joba back for the 9th. Then go to Traber, save Mo. He did go two the night before.

Not having a true long man really hurt us. What hurt us worse was having so many roster spots taken by guys who aren't available. The only guy that should be there but unavailable was Arod. Bruney should have been on the DL allowing us to bring up Albaladejo. I would bring up Rasner but he just pitched 7 innings the day before so he wouldn't have been able to pitch. Just DL-ing Bruney and bringing up Albaladejo allows you so much more. You bring in Albaladejo in the 3rd, he goes 3. In the 6th you bring in Hawkins, who can give you two. Now you are in the 8th. If you have a lead you go to Joba and then hand it over to Mo. If you don't then you hand it to Farnsworth and pray. If it's tied you go to Ohlendorf in the 8th. At least that is what I would have done. -Jitpal

So once again we have a pitcher with a good fastball (in Joba's case 98 mph) throwing breaking balls and losing the game. Both of the Sox 9th inning hits were on breaking pitches, even though neither one of those guys has a prayer of catching up to Joba's heater.

The Yankee catchers really need to be reeducated. Just throw the damn fastball. That's what Riviera does.

good point, but I turned from the game during the rain delay, because they had the friggin chicago news on, so when I turned back, I missed that farnsworthless pitched and got hurt, I didn't know I pen was that short. I was thinking if Mo didn't have to pitch two innings the night before, I would have went joba 8th, mo 9th, and then farnsworthless and traber the rest of the way and cross our fingers as you said.. but hey, it didn't work out that way, I just hate joba looked unhittable in the 8th and then started hanging that breaking ball or slider, maybe it was a little fatigue that caused him to hang those, he was hanging them all 9th inning..

Crede is no where near the hitter that Manny is. Don't even make that comparison. The only person on the White Sox that you can make that comparison with is Thome. If Thome was up then, maybe you would want to walk up. You don't walk Crede. Joba has shown countless times that he can strike out guys, you just have to trust him in the spot. He got beat. That was not a managerial mistake. -Jitpal

What I normally do during a rain delay is I put the game on through the slingbox on to my laptop or my imac, depending on where I am. That way I can keep a close watch on when its coming back, but I can do something else with the TV like watch a movie, a different TV show, a little xbox or anything. Then when the game comes back, I switch back.

I think it was fatigue but what can you do? Sometimes guys just get beat. Joba has been nearly perfect since he has been up. What has he given up like 3-4 runs his entire major league career? It happens. -Jitpal[/i]

dude what are you talking about? walking crede would have only increased our chances of getting of the inning. Crede is a much better hitter than a rookie who hardly gets to play in Alexei Ramirez. are you kidding me? that was a complete managerial mistake. whatever, its the past, no point in arguing about it now.

Joba beat himself. It was a mistake to pitch to Crede, but it was another mistake to throw him breaking pitches. In fact it was ridiculous, particularly sinc the previous batter had just hit the same pitch off the wall for a double.

Any HS coach will tell his pitcher: if they can't hit your fastball, keep throwing it.
