Re: Birds at Yanks
He threw a lot of fastballs early and then starting mixing in more later on. His command still looked iffy at points but was better than some of the previous starts. He was downright dominant through a lot of the start, but unfortunately had a few mistake pitches that led to those HRs.
Honestly, I'm not sure it does him any good to send him back down to AAA. It will happen anyway if Wang returns to form, but he seems to get away with not improving in SWB because the hitters aren't as capable of punishing him for his mistakes (namely, when he has command trouble with his secondary pitches). I hope they find a way to keep getting him work in the majors.

I agree... I think he is improving. He is not having the big innings, just seems to make the HR mistake pitches.. that is correctable... the 9k's in 5 innings is very encouraging....

Re: Birds at Yanks
he left some fastballs high which some teams would punish
he needs to develop that out pitch, and i think it should be that slider which they told him to stop throwing
i say stash him in SWB for the year

I'd like to see Hughes develop a changeup.
