BREAKING NEWS: Gardner to the DL

Post#1 » by VinnyTheMick » Sun Jul 26, 2009 4:57 pm

UPDATE, 10:37 p.m.: Brett Gardner is on the disabled list with a broken left thumb. He did it sliding into second base yesterday when he broke up a double play in the first inning. Amazingly, he stayed in the rest of the game, had an RBI triple and made two great catches in the eighth inning.

....sh_t. Now the question is who do you call up? Ajax or Shelley?

I don't know if I'd call up Jackson unless he was going to play everyday, but with the way Melky has been playing that may not be very far fetched. I just can't see the organization going with a rookie CF down the stretch of what could very well be a heated pennant race. Plus Jackson hasn't been raking of late, not that it should matter, but if he was red hot I'm sure that this would be a much easier decision.

Yea, that smarts a little but that's one of the reasons why the Yankees got a guy like Hinske who is a utility guy. It's too bad because Gardner was great in CF while Melky gave Damon or Swish-n-miss a rest. Also Gardner stole a lot of bases for us.

I doubt he'll be gone for very long. Probably be back in September.
