Re: As at Yanks
Still waiting for CC Sabbathia to have that dominating big game. So far, he's making more records with the sweat stains he leaves in his XXXX sized jersey. The A's pounced on his ass. 3-0. Luckily the A's are one of the most inexperienced pitching staffs in baseball...and the Yanks were able to wear the kid out and take the lead as CC settled down.
Today's game was very interesting. Joba's stat line might look deceptive: 7 innings 2 hits 1ER 6Ks 3BB 100 pitches. He was behind on a lot of the hitters and in the 8th, he completely lost the plate. It'll be VERY interesting to see how they handle his innings limit.
That kid the A's brought out is really, really good. He's the guy who shutout Boston with a complete game.

Wow, Wil Aceves...way to completely deflate a Yankee win streak. 7th inning, Pettitte leaves with one out. The bases are loaded, gets a infield pop out for the second, and couldn't close the door. Yanks rally but cannot tie the game in the 9th.
This is the primary concern for the Yanks. CC and AJ must win their games otherwise, you are praying that Joba and/or Pettitte comes through.

Re: As at Yanks
Stop overreacting.
Sure joba will mostly only give you 6 innings but he has a 3.86 ERA, stop acting as if he gets blown out every other start.
No team has 5 great starters.. Look at boston, smoltz has been a disaster, Matsuzaka has been injured most of the season and Penny is as effective has Pettite right now.
Anaheim has ervin santana sporting an ERA of 6.79, Joe saunders a 4.94 and matt palmer with a 4.68.
Tampa has Scott kazmir with a 6.69 ERA and David Price with a 5.60 ERA.
And I can keep going.
Only yankees fans find a way to complain about a 23 year old sporting a 3.86 ERA in the toughest division in baseball..

If you're going to overreact on anything yesterday, go after the bats. Two hits on a guy whose ERA was close to 10.

This is Aceves' first hiccup since when, May? Early June? Geez.

Must be true, if it's a rumor you read on Hoopshype.

You mean his first hiccup in 4 appearances. Keep in mind, the Yankees sent his ass down to the minors after his hiccup on the 9th of July. He was just called up shortly before his appearance on the 18th.
All I am saying is, now Wang is out for the season. Pettitte is always going to be questionable at his age. Any remember how many wins he had in the second half of the season last year? Not pretty. Mitre will give you, I don't know. Joba is always getting behind on hitters.
All this culminates in the Yanks pretty much needing wins out of CC and AJ almost every start because you don't know where those wins are going to come from. That is important as the Yanks go on the road against Tampa and the White Sox. Crucial road series coming up.

Wait, Aceves hasn't been sent down since his call-up in the beginning of the year. He's pitched well. I think his outing after his spot-start was a little rough, and then there was his latest, but other than that, he's been rock solid.

In multiple roles also, whether it's getting in early or late and I believe he also started for us.

I'm pretty sure you aren't a Yankee fan, all of your comments make it seem like you never see the team play. Aceves made a spot start on July 9th in Wang's absence so the team didn't have to call anybody up, far cry from a "hiccup" for a guy to make a random start after being a 1 inning reliever for 3 months. The only reason he didn't pitch again until the 18th is because of the all-star break, so you are pretty misinformed about his situation. So on the 18th, after a 9 day lay off and not having relieved in 13 days, he allowed 1 run. Seems pretty normal to me, not really a hiccup in the sense that he cost us a game or anything. Aside from Mo and obviously now Hughes the way that he has pitched, Aceves has been our only other reliable reliever since day one.

Re: As at Yanks
I'm pretty sure you're being a pretentious coward when it comes to critiquing your own team.
If you want hugs and margins of error, let me suggest the Knicks forum. They rattle the cages when the team is sniffing .500 or be a Mets fan where they are happy for any win.
To be a Yankee fan IS to expect BETTER. This is the Only team in NYC where there are actual expectations. If you LOVE your team, you won't be so vain as to not question moves done. It's like the same Yankee fans who obscure that during the 90s there was no decision to make with the bullpen but once Torre had to actually use strategy, the blunders began.
Again, you're missing the BIG picture. The POINT...stay with me, I am trying to make is, EVERY start CC Sabbathia and AJ Burnett make is amplified by the fact, you do NOT know how the starts for Joba and Pettitte are going to go. The top 2 starters of the rotation almost have to go 7-8 EVERY single time because you don't know if Joba is going to give you 5 innings or 6 innings. You don't know how Pettitte is going to hold up.
Keep in mind, the pen can be worn out 3/5 of the rotation against a good team. Oh and btw let's not confuse the O's and the A's with the Rays, Red Sox, Angels murderous line ups.
In Aceves meltdown, that put the ball in Mitre's hands. LUCKILY...the Yanks offense pulled through.
are you still with me? Are you seeing the forest before the trees?
Cause this isn't about one game it's about a stretch of games. One win can make your hold on a top stop helluva lot easier with upcoming games against +.500 teams.
Comprendez?
