"We were going to stay with our right-handers"

Girardi didn’t help today. He was so determined to load the lineup up with right-handed bats that he used Cody Ransom at first base and Jerry Hairston Jr. in left field. John Danks is a nice lefty. But right-handed batters (.243) had not hit him particularly better than left-handed batters (.230).

Then Ransom got up with two on in the sixth inning and the Yankees still in the game. Girardi stuck with him and he struck out.

“We were going to stay with our right-handers. We thought we were chipping away,” Girardi said. “We talked about (pinch hitting), but we didn’t do it.”

What is it with Joe and his lefty-righty matchups? It almost makes me pine for the days of Joey Four Rings... I mean, how the **** do you not have your better hitters on the bench pinch hitting in that situation? Is your mind so single-track that you cannot understand that the righty you are referring to sucks, and the matchups don't matter if he sucks?

Let's also not forget Joe's love for Coke and the lefty-lefty matchups over his better righty relievers in the bullpen.

He is like Tony Larussa...only he steals your ice cream...

Joe Girardi used Coke because he's their only lefty specialist after Marte went down.

Also, Girardi is on strict orders from Cashman not to overuse golden boy Philip hughes who is injury prone the last 2 seasons. They are treating him with kid gloves. That goes with Joba as well.

What are you talking about? He pitched the 30th and threw 35 pitches, on the 26th he threw 39 pitches, on the 23rd he got his first save (2 innings) and threw 29 innings...and that was after he pitched the previous night. The only games he has not pitched in since the 23rd were a 5 run win, a 2 run loss, a 7 run win, a 4 run loss, a 4 run win, a 5 run loss, and a 10 run loss. in which of those games would any team use their setup man? Hughes has been far from babied in the bullpen, Girardi has really let him loose with 2 innings appearances and 30+ pitch outings without even thinking twice.

Hughes also is not injury prone, he has not had one shoulder, elbow, bicep, or any other type of arm injury.
