Yanks @ Toronto: Don't over look the Jays

Post#1 » by Dr. Detfink » Tue Aug 4, 2009 1:26 pm

Every one is buzzing about the inevitable 4 game series showdown against the Red Sox post Big Papi Pump scandal. However, the Yanks can't overlook a 2 game set against Toronto who is definitely in position to give the Yanks a little trouble.

Tonight, Roy Halladay vs. Andy Pettitte: We'll see how Roy focuses now he's not the subject of trade rumors. They'll have to pounce early and often. Pettitte has been stung as of late. He's had quite a few no decisions so hopefully he can grind one out to keep the Yanks going.

Gonna be a fun time tonight.

Do we ever miss Roy Halladay? :nonono:

It's as if the Blue Jays make a concerted attempt to pitch Halladay every time they faces the Yanks... meanwhile, the Roid Sox see Halladay much more infrequently...

That thought came to mind. I was like geezus, it's almost as if Roy makes a concerted effort to pitch against New York. My only hope is, his head is still not right after the trade rumors, and the Yanks can sneak by.

he begs the team to arrange it this way. he's seen how much we pay to Yankee Killers.

Boy oh boy, things can tighten up in a hurry. After the Yanks unload back to back homers against Halladay, Philip Hughes puts two men on and with two outs Mo gives up a double to Wells.

Matsui gets one back for the Yanks. 5-3 lead.

BTW Halladay is 3 outs from his 5th loss in 6 starts. Meanwhile Washburn gave up 8 runs in his debut with Detroit.

nice win.

good battle between pettite and Halliday. That guy can just shut down bats.

Rivera looked a little shaky, but vernon wells always seems to hit him pretty good..

I will take it anyway we can get it..

Not a walk in the park by any stretch but the Yanks muscled through. Get ready for MITRE TIME tomorrow!

Mo looked shaky, and he knew it too. He was visibly frustrated after the game..

You act like Mitre was signed to be our #5 starter.

Here is a list of guys ahead of Mitre on the depth chart for the #5 spot:

1. Wang - Injured
2. Hughes - Pitching like an elite setup man
3. Ian Kennedy - Injured (just started throwing again)
4. George Kontos - Injured, tommy john surgery

So Mitre was the #5 choice (at best, probably even lower) to be the #5 starter before the season began, plus he actually had awesome numbers in the minors so it wasn't a terrible idea to give him a shot.

nice win and timely hitting..

sox lose again, now 2.5 back..

we can really put some distance between us this series. Look at the sox hitters, ortiz and crew are struggling hitting the ball, with the exception of youkalis of course..

9 game road trip started with 2.5 game lead and ended with a 2.5 game lead, that is always a plus.
