Carl Pavano was not a good signing. He had one good year his entire career... and it was his contract year. He's just an injury prone, mediocre pitcher.

I always believed you should go after starting pitching that has had continued success in the postseason. That and a solid head on your shoulders is what you need to be successful. If you can speak to the media, and think for youself, trust your stuff, and know what to do with it you will be successful.

RJ
Brown
Weaver
Contreras
Pavano
Jaret Wright

None of them fit those characteristics. Brown and RJ did except they can't deal with the media, that and Brown was a headcase.

What are you talking about? Are you saying the media had something to do with RJ and Kevin Brown's lack of success here? I beg to differ. Randy Johnson had a great first year here and the only reason why his second year was so awful was because he had an injured back all year. We all know the Kevin Brown story... his back was ruined when he was here.

It had nothing to do with the media... they both were old and their backs were failing them... Randy Johnson is a hall of famer and Kevin Brown is a borderline hall of famer... they dealt with the media just fine.

And that had something to do with his stellar 3.79 ERA, 225 IP ERA year he had in 2005? No, it didn't.

The reason why he had such a bad year in 2006 was because of his back. Which he had surgery on this past offseason.

I found another list, a few more names on it.

Here is who I would be interested in:
Michael Barrett C
Ichiro Suzuki OF
Andruw Jones OF
Mark Buerhle SP
Kyle Lohse SP
Carlos Silva SP
Carlos Zambrano SP
Jeremy Affeldt RP
Francisco Cordero RP
Jason Isringhausen RP
Joe Kennedy SP
Scott Linebrink RP
Joe Nathan RP
Kerry Wood SP (Incentive-type deal)

Looks like it could be a good year to pick up a 3/4 starter and some quality setup guys. -Jitpal[/url]

I'm talking about his 6.15 ERA in the postseason in 2005. And his 7+ Postseason ERA last year. And Kevin Brown's 20.25 ERA in the 2004 postseason in which he failed to make it through the 4th inning in both starts.

He didn't have a bad year last year, he won 17 games. I'm just saying money could have been spent more wisely.

2005 American League Highest Salaries
Rodriguez-NYY $26,000,000 Great
Ramirez-BOS $22,000,000 Great
Jeter-NYY $19,600,000 Great
Mussina-NYY $19,000,000 Good
Sosa-BAL $17,000,000 Piss Poor
Johnson-NYY $16,000,000 Good, but old
Brown-NYY $15,714,286 Piss Poor

Michael Barrett C -----We have Jorge, No thanks
Ichiro Suzuki OF -----Would fit well in right or center, but we have a leadoff hitter...I'd sign him and stick him at leadoff and in right and move Damon down the order

Mark Buerhle SP -----Best Pitcher Available IMO
Kyle Lohse SP -----No thanks
Carlos Silva SP -----No thanks

Jeremy Affeldt RP -----No thanks
Francisco Cordero RP ------Will probably want to close
Jason Isringhausen RP ------Likewise
Joe Kennedy SP ------Nope
Scott Linebrink RP ------Hello, but will also probably like the oppurtunity to close
Joe Nathan RP-----Hmmmmmm
Kerry Wood SP (Incentive-type deal) -------Hmmmmm

He'd be tops on my list to replace Abreu in RF. He's a dynamic talent that will bring great defense, a gun of an arm, base stealing, excitement all wrapped into one package. And he's got the type of personality to not be phased by playing in NY.

Andruw Jones OF
Mark Buerhle SP
Kyle Lohse SP
Carlos Silva SP

Nathan definitely should be considered. I wouldn't mind Wood on an incentive type deal.

Oh yeah, let's hope the Yankees don't panic and overpay for a 3.
