Carl Crawford is not a better player than Matt Holliday. Matt Holliday is a better hit, for average, gets on base more and for power. He is also a decent baserunner. The only thing Crawford has over him is speed. If you want to sign a LF it is Matt Holliday over Carl Crawford.

Love this deal. We needed starting pitching depth and this was a great move. Hate to see Melky go, but we got a quality starter in return. All we need to do is resign Damon and pick up a 5th starter and we'll be set.

We have a fifth starter. It is either Philip Hughes or Joba Chamberlain.

It would take at least a two season lockout to force a hard cap on the players, and even then, the sport might well die before then.

Crawford has much more speed (game changing speed) than Holliday and is a better fielder. Holliday did most of his "damage" at Coors stadium a traditional home run haven while Crawford played in the much less homer friendly Tropicana field. The fielding rating, the homer friendliness are stats that can be pulled up by doing a search on it.

Crawford, being a lefty hitter, will also greatly benefit from the short right field porch than the righty hitting Holliday.

With Rodriguez and Texeira squating in the middle of the lineup a guy like Crawford is a better fit for his ability to create opportunities with his baserunning (i.e. better scoring position, forcing pitchers to adjust their pitching to account for him on the bases, etc.).

I'd take Crawford over Holliday anyday.

Then do that simple search. While Holliday played a hitter's park, he also played a lot of pitcher's ballparks in the NL West. Remember, while his split stats were a little varied, his road splits are still better than Crawford's total splits. Matt Holliday doesn't have his speed but he is still an efficient base stealer. His defense in left field is solid. Matt Holliday is also a very good opposite field hitter. He hit a opposite field HR at the All-Star game in Yankee Stadium. I don't like that Crawford does not walk a lot and does not hit for power. Matt Holliday does both better.

WIth the current makeup of this team, I think Holiday is the better option although I'd love crawford. We have a great defensive Cf, speed up top with Jeter and Granderson, and after losing Matsui and to a lesser extent, Damon, we are short a no. 5 hitter who can protect A Rod. Nick Johnson will help, but more in the OBP department than through power. He isnt a homerun hitter.

Lets over pay Damon for one year if he'll do it. Give him like 1yr/15mil.

Hopefully this means they're going to sign someone with the salary cut.In which case it would be a good trade. Like the above poster said Jason Bay + Melky would be a big improvement and worth the loss of Vazquez.

The Bravos have no intention of keeping Melky. Everything Cabrera can do Infante can do better. Braves dont need a slap hitter, they need some power. Im saying they trade Melky and with the money saved they will go after Bay to play lf and bat 4th. Also i could see them signing Nady to play 1st for a year.
Mcclouth
Prado
Jones
Bay
McCan
Escobar
Nady
Diaz

Thats a pretty sick lineup man.

Ya that sounds good. I'm a bit out of the loop. I can't watch the Braves anymore since their not on TBS. So I haven't been watching baseball much the past two years. Only ESPN games and when I goto/or watch Mets or Yankee vs Braves games.

Carl Crawford is a terror on the bases. With him on bases, pitcher will be on edge. Crawford steals on a regular bases. I like the old small ball yanks. Get on base, be patient at plate, wait for the pitcher to make a mistake.

LOL never going to happen. The Player's Union will never agree to a cap on how much their clients can make. Get real.

Not sure that this deal makes up for the loss of Kate Hudson.

I really don't understand what we're doing with Hughes and Joba. Are we going to make one of them a permanent 8th inning guy or not? We have Burnett, CC, just bought back Andy, now we got Javier. We're also supposedly considering adding Ben Sheets. So that's 4 starters, possibly 5, with Hughes and Joba still in the bullpen.

Hughes will have an innings limit so I think the idea is Joba as the #5 & Phil in the pen to get his innings up.
