Get Joba the Hutt off of the team! Now!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so sick of seeing this guy pitch. He has done nothing all year but he is used as the setup man. Give me a break.

I would give Robertson a shot in the setup role even though he isn't entirely reliable either, but he can't be worse

Nothing can be worse. Joba is a mental midget who has blown a ton of games so far this year. How he is still trusted in the 8th inning setup man role is beyond me. How many times is going to be allowed to blow a game this year?

Re: DFA Joba
Keeping Joba out of trade offers for Santana, and other big names seems dumb now right? I have never been a fan of his ( except when he throws at Youk ) He reminds me of Irabu... a Fat toad!

If the Yankees had traded for Santana, Twins wanted Hughes. Plus the Yankees wouldn't have signed CC several months later. CC and Hughes are 1000000 times better than Johan now.

Re: DFA Joba
His peripheral numbers are still strong and part of his struggles can be attributed to simple bad luck (a .390 BABIP and 58.3 strand rate are both unsustainable and should normalize eventually) but at this point, he just can't be trusted in big spots.
I've been on the Joba bandwagon since the day we drafted him but you just can't justify sending him out there to pitch the 8th inning of a 1-0 game anymore. The thing is, burying him on the depth chart isn't going to help him fix what's wrong, so I could get behind sending him back down to the minors for a period to see if they can figure out what the problem is. The stuff is fine, he doesn't look like he's made any drastic mechanical changes and it's not like he's walking a ton of batters, so maybe some closer observation and a chance to work on specific pitches and situations could cure what ails him.

Really, he's been overdue for a trip back to AAA for a while now, but this insistence that throwing him back in the bullpen would fix everything has kept it from happening.
On the other hand, the peripheral discrepancy is undeniable and relievers are just prone to rough luck by their nature. Even Mo has those stretches where his ERA jumps to the 3's and everyone panics that he's losing it.

The twins wanted one of Hughes or Joba... but either way i was just merely making a point that people asked for him in plenty of trades... I even read that Toronto wanted Joba and Montero for Halladay somewhere... which to me was a no brainer...
either way Joba has cost us at least 4 games this year. He has given up more then 2 runs in 6 outings. Including 4 runs twice and 3 runs 3 times. Any other set up man does that and he gets axed.

Re: DFA Joba
The problem with Joba is simple, he needs his velocity back. He was throwing 97-100 back in '07 when he was dominant, you can get away with mistakes when you throw that hard. You can't get away with mistakes when you're throwing 94-95 MPH. I have absolutely no idea how your velocity can drop that much in 2-3 years. Something needs to be done to regain that electric stuff he had back in '07.

Re: DFA Joba
he needs to pitch a little earlier in the game or maybe a small, minor league stint to rebuild his confidence would be helpful
