It seems as if Cashman is pushing for AJ to make the start.
Thoughts?

If the yanks face Texas, its a good call cause AJ was decent against the Rangers.

Someone has to get a start. It's going to be either Burnett, Nova, Moseley, Gaudin or Mitre. Who do you want there? All of those guys have the ability to go in there and get absolutely hammered. Only one guy has the ability to also throw out 7 shut out innings. Personally, I'd start Burnett and have Nova or Moseley warming up in the pen. If Burnett is on we will know quickly, if not, go to one of those guys and hopefully they can keep the team in it and let the bats do some work. -Jitpal

You want want to rethink that if the Yanks play the Rays. Nova has a 6.97 ERA against the Rays. It's a small sample size, sure, but it's all we have. I'm not that comfortable throwing Nova out there for a start. -Jitpal

Unfortunately he is the 4th best starter we have. Maybe we catch lightning in a bottle, all we need is 1 or 2 more starts from him the rest of the season so its not like we are looking for pro-longed greatness. He definitely has that ability to go out there and bring it.

I just wonder if 2-3 weeks off would help or hurt a guy like him. Probably can't hurt considering how bad he was.

if i remember correctly, he cruised thru the first 4 innings, b4 imploding in the 5th inning in the one game, the other game he was more than decent

still better than AJ, he throws the game away after inning #1

I'm terrified, but still ok with it. I'm assuming he will have a short leash.

AJ might and he might not. It's a gamble. AJ is just a likely to throw 7 shutout innings as he is to give up 7 runs in 2 innings. -Jitpal

right now i think hes far more likely to throw 2 innnigs and give up 7 then visa versa. Still, you gotta go with Burnett and keep Nova and Mosely ready right away. Hes going to be facing Texas's number 4 starter who will either be Tommy Hunter or Scott Feldman, so its like we cant get to them to and try to pull out an comebacker with good backup.

Jeff Weaver is an example of a guy who caught lightning in a bottle and became MVP with the Cards. AJ pitching well won't be a surprise or unheard of.

Normally I would say a pitcher with control problems would have even more problems with that kind of layoff. However, I'm rooting for the "we frigged him up so much it evened out his own frigged upness so now he'll pitch well effect."
