Not surprising, he really hasn't helped develop 1 pitcher in his time here. The top prospects that he was supposed to turn into studs (Kennedy, Joba, Hughes) haven't done what we expected outside of Hughes. The other 2 were major flops. He didn't really help anyone else progress in that time either, AJ has regressed and Javier was useless.
I like him, hope he lands somewhere and does well...but it was clearly time to move on.

Re: Eiland fired as pitching coach
Agreed. I wish him nothing but the best but there needed to be a change. I wonder who the Yankees go after because as far as I know there aren't too many guys in the system that they could bring up for this and Nardi needs to stay down there to teach guys how to pitch. Also, Pettitte pitching hurt makes that game 3 performance all the better. It's pretty amazing to see what he has done through his career and it would really suck for him to go out like that. -Jitpal

Having worked directly 100 ft from cashmans office this summer, I can safely say that when Eiland left for "personal" reasons, nobody in the front office was pleased at all. I tried to find out what was going on but they wouldn't even touch the subject. Anyway, the internet rumors are what they are, but I can say that only a handful of people inside the organization know what went down and I find it hard to believe they would let it slip. If you guys have any questions regarding how the yanks are run, I'll be more then happy to answer, I was only an intern for the baseball operations but it was pretty awesome.

Re: Eiland fired as pitching coach
I'm dying to know what happened with Eiland. There must have been a serious issue that they dealt with. I don't think he cheated with a Yankee employee, I think it's gotta be something more crazy than that for him to have taken all that time off.
I thought he did a great job honestly. Yankees brass thought Guidry was a complete joke and didn't know what he was doing, which was clear with how poorly he performed under Torre. Eiland had a great eye for the technical side of pitching and it's a shame to see him go. He didn't turn Joba into Mark Prior pre-injury but he did have good success with focusing young guys like Phil Coke and Dave Robertson, who floundered a little until they found success in his technical advice.
Think about that playoff start where he pulled Andy into the clubhouse after the first to watch video and he came back to dominate the rest of his game. Most baseball guys would bash that decision, taking Andy out of his rhythm, but it corrected a mechanical flaw and turned the game around. Eiland will land somewhere.
