Boy, that trade deal for Martin better be a joke...

Post#1 » by Dr. Detfink » Sat Dec 4, 2010 5:37 pm

Now, I would trust a NY Times article that Jesus is walking his way over the Atlantic to see the Knicks play before I would believe ANYTHING written by the NY Daily News...but let's humor them...

Er, Russell Martin for Cervelli whose overacting has tired out the umpires (never mind opponents are finally pitching at him and it shows by his offensive stat decline)...

I mean, this is a no-brainer. You have Martin and Montero platoon while Posada limps out the last year of his career (cause he ain't staying healthy for a full season). Even if Montero turns out to be Johnny Bench defensively (and he ain't) you can still use Russell defensively and move Montero to DH, giving Posada an off day to teach base running skills.

Seriously, you think Cervelli can be any better than he is? Russell in a wheel chair is a better hitter and catcher than Cervelli. For that 5M...DEAL.

Great short term investment because Montero is going to struggle. Much like it took Hughes a couple seasons to get to 18 wins.

I don't think Montero is going to struggle all that much, his bat translates at any level. I do agree though, Martin would make a lot of sense though. He's strong defensively, pretty young, and has a decent bat for a catcher, that and he can play other positions, giving you additional roster flexibility.
