i also read somewhere CC might also have been involved in the meeting
Im not sure, I do not want crawford...too much $$ for some1 who depends on his legs...if yanks wanted a LF, shouldve gone after holliday last year, that wouldve been the better investment

Re: yanks meet with crawford
You really like Holliday, who couldn't hit a lick in the AL, over a younger Crawford who hit 3rd in our AL East Rival?
Not sure I feel the same, I view Crawford > Holliday. He impacts the game in more ways then just one.
Good move by BC to meet with Crawford, gauge the asking price, and show teams there is actual interest from us in order to drive up his price at the least. I'm not for signing crawford as Gardner will make pennies compared to him and before he got hit on the wrist, was a way above avg lf for us last season at the plate and DEFINITELY in the field.
Hypothetically speaking::::: Imagine, Sign Crawford, Trade Swisher........LF-Crawford, CF - Granderson, RF - Gardner.......I don't think there could be a better defensive alignment in the MLB.

You can't coach speed...and let's face it, Crawford would definitely help hitting #2 in the order. Crawford and Gardner would be HELL on opposing pitchers.
However, does that mean the Yanks wold re-approach Nick Swisher whose stock was NEVER higher after last season?
I have a feeling this is just the Yanks trying to play chicken with the Angels. The winter meetings is all about how to get your opponent to OVERSPEND on FA...because it's not the contract but the LUX tax that kills ya.

Crawford doesn't make a lot of sense unless Swisher, Gardner or Granderson is being shopped for starting pitching. I can't imagine who would be worth acquiring since Greinke, Johnson and Hernandez are all either unavailable or don't want to be here. I'd rather just give the starting spot to Nova than deal for a 3-4 starter. -Jitpal

Sucks that Crawford signed with the Red Sox. Looks like the Yankees will have an offseason like the Knicks and miss out on all their top targets.

Outside of Gardner, none of those guys are worth it to a team rich in pitching because they already make too much money. That's what happens with these FAs the Yanks sign...they eventually become untradable not due to talent but contract size.
Now, you might find a taker for Nick Swisher because he had a great season last year but you aren't getting pitching in return. Its just too rare of a commodity.
I really don't know of 7 years for Crawford is a good deal. Very long contract.
But a line up that includes Elsbury, Crawford,Gonzalez, Ortiz, Pedroia, Youkalis is going to tear up Fenway.

That was a VERY big contract for Crawford. As much as I have always wanted him...damn...that may just be too crazy. But good luck with it in Boston. Boston going for broke by going broke.
