if you compare what seattle, phillies and indians got for cliff lee, what toronto got for halladay, marlins for beckett,i dont see know a player like liriano can demand a top 10 prospect.

Well if Hanley Ramirez (who was acquired by the Marlins in the Beckett deal) was not a top ten prospect, he should have been.

There is no chance any conversation about Liriano would start with Montero. And if it would, then the Twins simply won't find a deal for him. Montero wasn't even traded for guys like Halladay or Lee, and neither of those two guys brought back a prospect on Montero's level from other teams.
Felix is a different story.

He was borderline, some people were high on him the year before the trade. However, he hit .270 and showed no power and questionable defense in AA before he was traded. The Red Sox pretty much sold low on him as a prospect.

Re: Liriano *may* be available
there continues to be more chatter bout yanks interested in Lir. and twins keeping eye on yanks prospects
if MIN is dangling him so early, it actually sends up a flag for me, they must know something about him that others dont

He may not be the next Johan like everybody thought three years ago, but he would still be our 2nd best pitcher, far from damaged goods. However, I would still be concerned about injuries and wouldn't give up any blue chip guys for him.

Liriano is pretty damn good. I wouldn't give up Montero for him, or the killer B's. I'd give up Austin Romine, Gerald Laird though. We can get Liriano on the cheap if we wait, which is what has been Cashman's plan all along - patience. Wait for a team to realize they aren't going anywhere this year with their stud pitcher and they're better off trading him for pieces instead of getting into a bidding war with other teams. A better example is Weaver out in Anaheim, which I think makes more sense if we wait it out.
I don't know how big those board is with sabermetrics, but Liriano was one of the best pitchers last year. In fact, many sabermetricians people thought he should have won Cy Young.
3.06 xFIP (2nd best), 2.66 FIP (3rd best) 6 WAR (8th best). This is with a 3.31 BABIP, 2nd highest in the MLB. Not only is that extremely unlucky, but it's strange when you consider the big ball park he pitches in (4th lowest HR/9). He is a strike out pitcher, would work in Yankee stadium. What playoff 1-2's are close to that? The only 2 I can think of are Lee/Halladay and Lincecum/Cain.
