Yanks (63-44) @ Detroit Tigers (58-50): Showdown in Motown

Post#1 » by Dr. Detfink » Mon Aug 6, 2012 4:17 am

If there's one team I worry about facing in the playoffs, it's NOT Texas...it's actually the Detroit Tigers who have 86-ed more talented Yankee teams in the past. Do the Yanks have a habit of playing down to the competition? I'm not sure. I like to believe the Tigers were the hungrier team.

Despite injuries, there is no excuse for the Yanks this year...Remember what I said about second half of the season determining a lot of what is to come. Yanks are treading water (as expected) but they have to be careful during this stretch not to repeat what they did in Oakland.

Match ups:

Nova (10-5) vs Verlander (11-7): Can the Yanks get one on the terminator? Can Nova regain his form?

Hughes (11-8) vs. Porcello (8-6): I still equate this season about Hughes re-learning how to pitch.

Sabbathia (11-3) vs Sanchez (8-6): CC is heating up. I think he's good for 17 wins.

Kuroda (10-8) vs Fister (6-7): Kuroda just can't get run support.

TOUGH series coming up...Let's GO YANKS!

Tough loss for Nova. He is now, 1-4 in his last 5 starts. His ERA now close to 5. He ran into Freddy Garcia-ism that being the 5th just cannot finish.

Wasn't someone trolling me over and over and over AND over about not liking Nova's look coming into this season and couldn't WAIT to jump me when Nova was chewing up on NL opponents?

I don't have a problem with people having a difference of opinion so long as they understand you can only bash the offense so many times before you look at giving up 11 hits and paying the piper for so many runs.

I think it's clear the holes in the Yanks rotation are still there. NO ONE looks like the #2 in the rotation and arguably #3. I don't like a 5 game series against anyone now that the Twins are not controlling the AL Central.
