That might actually turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Rather than trying to trade FOR more guys, might as well as see if anybody is interested in some of their veterans (include money to offset salaries if needed) and look to next season.

right now it is the only choice, we are almost double digits out of the wild card. I mean look at this, if we won the next 15 games in a row, boston could go 6-9 and still have a 5 game lead on us.... Cashman failed miserably, IMO should be held accountable. Damn the injuries, our pitching has been doing well of late and this team of overrated, fat ass hitters isn't doing a damn thing. Damon legs are shot. Giambi's swing is shot, and Abreu needs to be shot.. matsui is showing signs of declining, right now we have about 100+ mil tied up in 3 to 4 players that are pure cow dung!!

Look at the bright side:

Mets vs Red Sox is definitely the World Series.

The starting pitching and bullpen are not worst than in the years past, the problem is we cant even hit a softball. The way abreau and cano finished off last season, i dont see how anyone could have predicted them strugglely for two months. Damon and Giambi are some what expected, but again I didnt expect them to break down the first month of the season(first day for damon?)

The last time something like this happened was? I don't think anything like this has ever happened for this franchise.

What a dissapointing loss, the day after another dissapointing loss, 2 days after a 3 game sweep.

I'd blame Torre, but that's too easy. The hitters just aren't hitting.

Poor Andy... if he wanted no run support he could have just went back to Houston :(

despite rivera's troubles early, we know he is still a great closer and bruney has been very good, the problem is that those guys are not really a factor because our hitting can't keep us close in games. I wanted rid of giambi a few years ago, Damon is just not healthy, his legs are shot and he is not even close to the same player. Matusi bat is sawdust and Abreu looks like he retired during the summer. A-rod, jeter and Posada are doing what we expected and even exceeding my expectations. Cano is starting slow, but we know how quick he can heat up. right now we need a lead off hitter and a #3 hitter, insert melky in the lineup fulltime and we can win games. the problem is that boston is playing so far above their heads, when they come back to earth and it is going to happen, will we be too far out to even matter, damn the division I am even talking wildcard here....

I will keep my prediction that the wildcard is within reach as long as all four teams in the central stay competitive. It is almost possible to have two +.600 teams and two +.500 teams all in the same division.

I agree. The wildcard is within reach.

I am still willing to say that the division is in reach, IF we are 7 or 8 games back by the all-star break.
