Yanks (79-68) @ Boston (89-59): Do or do not

Post#1 » by Dr. Detfink » Fri Sep 13, 2013 7:16 am

Tampa eeked out a win last night. That maintains their narrow lead in the Wild Card Race to 2 games. While Tampa plays the Twins, the Yanks go to Boston to face the red hot Red Sox.

Should be interesting because the Sawx would love to end the Yanks hopes of a post season.

If the Yanks can cut the deficit to one game, going into their final set against Tampa...I think they have an even shot but first, they must survive Boston.

Kuroda looked spent. The offense is not enough to over come 4 run deficits twice.

Should the Yankees get swept by the Yankees at Fenway, that will drop them to 4-4 without Derek Jeter. So all the talk that Jeter is holding back the team is silly. This team has problems, plural.

Kuroda-Sabbathia-Nova: 18 runs in 3 games, given up by the pitching.

A-Rod, Cano, Soriano, Granderson: 6 runs produced in the last 3 games.

It becomes apparent that the team can't hit and can't pitch.

What is the silver lining?

Soriano is having a David Justice season. 47 RBIs in 46 games is about to eclipse Vernon Wells 47 RBIs in 121 games. BOTH OFs will be back next season.

While the Yanks are not mathematically eliminated, you'd have to think this is where the season ended for them, but not being able to split.

And hey, I'm still pulling for them to make the playoffs, but what exactly is exciting about a mediocre team limping or lucking into the last playoff spot, a goofy one just started by baseball to drum up late season interest and TV ad revenue. And they would probably get bounced in the one game "play off".
