Could Joe Girardi bolt to the Cubs in the off season?

Post#1 » by Dr. Detfink » Thu Sep 26, 2013 2:20 pm

IF there was ever the right time to leave the NY Yankees, NOW would be the time. The franchise has three gluttonous contracts left in Alex Rodriguez, CC Sabbathia, and Mark Teixiera. NONE of these guys are in their prime. The BEST player on the team, Robinson Cano is a FA. Front Office has made it known unless he accepts what they have to offer, he's not welcome back. An aging iconic SS who will take the 9M option, may not finish the season if his ankle doesn't feel right after THREE premature trips off the DL. The greatest reliever in the history of the game is retired.

Lastly, the front office has proven that it can't draft one decent starter in the last 13 yrs, can't trade prospects for better prospect/player (see Pineda trade) and the GM is sheep-ish about bidding for FAs in international leagues.

So would you take the NY Yankee job knowing all that? Or would you go home to Chicago where they've already house cleaned and are slowly but surely rebuilding themselves under Theo Epstein, a man who can end a curse?

Your thoughts...

I sure hope he doesn't but you bring up a very interesting point. He's one of the top managers in the game, and probably won us 10 games this year with his decision making, keeping him should be a priority.

Also, screw Cano, he is beyond delusional.

but basically I believe this is a ploy by the FO to leak this to take the attention off them for missing the playoffs

I agree as well. Not since Al Kaline has a player said, "That's too much money.." It's always negotiated from the position of get as much or in the case of the FO as little as either side can get.

But I thought PTI brought up a great point, 2B is usually a position of defense, it's ranked 8th in a position of power and if the Yanks need a ridiculous amount of help upgraded almost EVERY position...personally I think its a sign and trade.

As for Joe, if I were Girardi, I'd bolt for the Cubs. Yanks need a lot of work and I'm sorry I have a vote of no confidence in Levine/Cashman/Hal Steinbrenner.

That's a good point, I hadn't thought of that. I do think it is the first step in the don't pay Cano plan too, now that's Cano's problem and not the Yankees from a public forum perspective.

Who would be some possible replacements for Girardi if he does bolt? Is Terry Francona's contract up? :D

Well as I thought, the Cubs fired their manager and interested in Girardi.
