After Derek Jeter retires, who IS the face of the franchise?

Post#1 » by Dr. Detfink » Sat Dec 7, 2013 8:18 pm

David Ortiz, such a humble man...shared his thoughts that the Yanks gave up the face of their franchise. Agree or disagree? If you disagree, who is the face of the franchise after Derek Jeter retires?

Take a look at that 2014 NY Yankee roster

LF: Jacob Ellsbury age 30 signed from Boston Red Sox
CF: Carlos Beltran age 36 from the St. Louis Cardinals
RF: Alfonso Soriano age 37 traded from Chicago Cubs
1B: Mark Teixiera age 33 signed from LA Angels/Atlanta Braves
C: Brian McCann age 29 signed from Atlanta Braves
2B: Kelly Johnson age 31 signed from TB Rays
3B: Alex Rodriguez age 38 traded from Texas Rangers

SS: Derek Jeter is the ONLY starter who is a NY Yankee throughout his career....at age 39.

The YOUNGEST starter on the NY Yankees is Brian McCann, coming off some ailments at age 29, turns 30 end of February.

Let's look at the Starting rotation:
CC Sabbathia age 33: Signed from Cleveland
Hiroki Kuroda age 38: Signed from LA Dodgers
Michael Pineda age 24: trade from Mariners

Only Ivan Nova age 26 and David Phelps age 27 are home grown Yankees

Go to the bullpen:
David Robertson age 28 and Joba Chamberlain age 28 anchor that pen. Both are home grown Yankees.

Very, VERY interesting look at the 2014 NY Yankees.

Joba's a free agent too. He may be homegrown, but I hope they find a much better replacement.

If he bounces back (which I'm hoping he can) it becomes CC's team. When he's on, he is the workhorse the rest of the team follows.

If not, it could be McCann but we'll have to see how he pans out this season.

Ortiz didn't start out with Bos and he became the face, and even if we kept Cano, was he going to be a face/leader, I think not.
Preemptively joining the Bucks and Twolves bandwagons.

Unfortunately A-Rod is the face of this franchise right now.
