J.C. Romero - R Jun. 18 - 5:24 pm et

Red Sox released LHP J.C. Romero.

It's surprising the Red Sox couldn't find anyone to pick up the $1 million Romero was owed over the rest of the season. He'll be signed quickly now.

are we interested ?

you do know nardi contreras was his pitching coach in seattle, sign romero and send him to contreras to straighten out, we'd have a quality lefty w/ innings in that arm for the 2nd half

It's worth taking a flyer, but he isn't going to make or break our season. Ron Villone is probably better.

I'd take a shot at him but I wouldn't be heartbroken if we didn't get him. -Jitpal

I don't want a guy who lets up that many baserunners in our bullpen. Don't let his ERA fool you, look at his WHIP. Thats how to judge relievers if you're using stats. Because not all relievers pitch full innings, they often rely on other guys to pick them up when they let runners on base (in Romero's case Okajima and Paps) Also, inherited runners scored do not boost your ERA. His ERA might be around 3, but his WHIP is around 2. Yikes.

As a Red Sox fan, I'd love you guys to sign him because he's going to walk half our line-up. Seriously, the guy can barely find the plate. His ERA is decent but as 34Celtic said, he walks so many guys that he's really not worth much. He was our long man towards the end so that's the purpose he'd probably serve with you guys. mahalo
